I posted this in Pedal-powered earlier today but it didn't float anyone's boat, however I think it is still worthy of mention.

Princess Di used to navigate herself around London on a fine Raleigh Traveller pushbike some 40 years ago. When the Palace decided that it was a mode of transport that was (literally) beneath a princess she moved to 4 wheels - I believe a Renault 5 initially and then with the groundbreaking new Mini Metro.

The bike has changed hands several times since then but has remained in fine order and finally came to auction in Battle, East Sussex today. An estimate of £15-20K seemed optimistic, after all the bike is a humble Raleigh and Chuck/Di memorabilia is hardly the in-thing these days...

It did OK.

in view of this I did a frantic number plate search for that maroon Metro - but it seems to be locked up in the Coventry Motor Museum...

Kind of cool but is it a part of history or well just a bike.

A bit too expensive for the average seat sniffer I guess.
