Dynamic IP / SSL Certificate help
Discussion
Hi,
I need some advice. I run a local motor club website. Its hosted on proper servers etc, but locally I run a development site on my machine that is behind a no-ip web url. It runs http and not https.
Browsers now won't go to the page on my dev site as Chrome (for example) errors with ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR.
If I use my internal IP it's happy, that doesn't help committee members review development website changes.
Can I disable SSL on Chrome, or get an SSL certificate for a Dynamic IP URL ?
Any ideas on how to get around this, it is driving me slightly potty.
Thanks
BS

SSL Certs and IP addresses aren't really related.
What matters is that the URL that the user puts into their web browser needs to match the certificate that is on the web server serving up the page.
If you were using some dynamic DNS service so that say blackscooby.org.uk redirected to your home IP address then you would need to have an SSL cert on your home webserver for that URL. You could buy or get a free SSL cert from any of the numerous providers.
I'm not really familiar with noip, but I think if you are using one of their standard hostnames, then you probably need to do this https://www.noip.com/support/knowledgebase/how-to-... Which is essentially the same as above, but just using their services.
