Having taken the decision to sell my M140i because it was costing a small fortune to sit mostly on the drive I'm looking at short (2 year) deals as I can't keep borrowing the other car but I don't want to do anything too longterm.

I really like the idea of an EV but everything I can see seems to cost a packet.

i.e. I can get in a Corsa or Micra for £130/month but seem to be looking > £200 for anything electric even a Mii or a Leaf.

Am I missing any crazy deals?

No. High list prices and weak residual confidence means they are pricey at the minute from what I've seen. Depend how much of the difference you can offset against running costs I suppose.

Realistically once you factor in the up front payment are you really getting a Corsa or Micra for £130 a month though on a 2 year deal?

No you're not going to find an EV for the price of a really cheap ICE car, and currently lack of certainty is hurting residuals even more than you'd expect for the already elevated list prices.

If you don't drive much and hence have a sizable fuel bill to offset, EVs still don't make much sense financially, especially for people who lease.

Yeh, I don’t think you’re missing anything. I have a 5 year old 2.0l diesel octavia which has done about 1k in the last year. Going forward my commute is 3 miles 1-2 times week. I’m guessing my car is not going to worth anything very quickly.

I’d love to change it for an EV but if I’m paying at least £250 a month, I’d want it to be Focus sized, not a Corsa or Zoe or whatever.

I have been tempted by the Kona.

Yes I have been looking at the Kona. This deal seems decent for the 2021 64 kWh Premium variant

I'm in the same position with a diesel hardly being used on the driveway, and it probably losing as much as this lease costs in depreciation every month (Man Maths). My only reservation is moving from a Mercedes to a Hyundai

Hyundai Ioniq has some good deals, is focus sized and is a great car. We have one.

Other that that everything else gets pricy very quickly, so we’re actually debating buying a Model 3 as it isn’t any more than a mid-specked Id3 and we may as well go for something we really want, rather than a place holder.

Might be worth looking at a Mii Electric on PCP, all the cheap deals seem to be gone now but they did have an offer on PCP I think.

Brilliant car though, had mine for 3 weeks now, can't see me going back to ICE for a day to day/work car, absolutely fantastic!!

Based on my a-class and my wife’s Ioniq, the Mercedes is definitely higher quality materials and is great inside. The Hyundai is better built though, no rattles, wind noise or badly aligned panels (all of which I’ve had on the Merc from new).

It's neither, it's the government incentives for BCH and BCP on EV's that are driving rates, a business can claim the first years costs for a BEV, as most are leased, so the OEMs are stacking the rates to claim more from the Government.

So they are getting £20-30k, for what would normally be a £10-15k lease.

I've signed up for a Kona 64kWh Premium for 24 months, with 6 month initial, 8K miles pa for £243 a month. Pretty good deal I think, supplied by Richmond Hyundai ( https://www.richmondmotorgroup.com/hyundai/ ) and delivered a week on Tues. The only issue was that they only had the black colour which wasn't by preference but I don't care that much.

I'm not sure how they will be making money on that deal as total cost is £7290 and they get back a 2 year old car that must be worth less than £25K resale, but that's not my problem.

I'm wondering whether to take Gap Insurance, they offered it at £250 for 2 years, but gapinsurance.co.uk are 1/2 that price and you get a 10% discount with the speak EV discount code.

Did you get the new facelift or the old model?

2021 model with the smooth front... well that's what was ordered. I'll see when it turns up. It has the more recent 10.5Kw charger.

Nice, I like the facelift improvements a lot. Enjoy when it arrives, they are really good EVs.

More like £28k looking at autotrader, unless something changes the market significantly (which is admittedly possible given how many more cars there are on the market now than two years ago).

Still does seem good value. I suspect the newer competition, especially the ID3, is starting to hurt them. Hopefully this is the first sign that genuine competition in the market is going to start to drive down prices.

Great price for a well equipped EV with strong range OP.

Looking at leasing.com you'd struggle to get the cheapest diesel version for that cost and would be looking at a £100 a month fuel bill on top for a far slower and less well equipped car.

Agreed, that's a sensible 'deal'.

£168 for an Ionic. A lot of car for the money. (9+23, 5K mpa)
