10 years this weekend since bin Laden was killed
Discussion
Illegal invasion of a sovereign country & murder of individuals therein. This being the same sovereign country the US has regularly lobbed missiles into.
I wonder what the US' reaction would be to another country doing exactly the same with them. An example would be UK popping over to Boston in the 1970s and killing the Irish terrorists residing there or Venezuala lobbing missiles into Miami to kill dissidents.
American arrogance & hypocrisy knows no bounds.

Thank you for the link.
Time well spent on reading that story, one were those who paid the ultimate price or took the risk will remain in the shadows forever. The courage they had to see this through to give us hopefully a more peaceful world to live in is unimaginable.
Interesting how Obama may not have been quiet so bullish with the speech if he had not been building himself up to give the green light. How history may have been so very different.

It wasn't an invasion.I wonder what the US' reaction would be to another country doing exactly the same with them. An example would be UK popping over to Boston in the 1970s and killing the Irish terrorists residing there or Venezuala lobbing missiles into Miami to kill dissidents.

What was achieved by killing Bin Laden? I mean that in a practical sense. Yes, he was a symbol, but was he and active threat or combatant at that point? Were more potential terrorists put off than encouraged by the action? Or was it a straight-up revenge killing? (whether justified or not).
From what I've seen it was more for America to "get their man" that to protect against a serious security issue.

I distinctly remember the Pakistani military were very very angry as they were not told beforehand. Didn't the Yanks use a couple of modified 'stealth' helicopters & one of them crashed?
You might be thinking of a Reagan era operation involving Iran. There was at least one helicopter crash in the Iranian operation you are thinking of, but stealth helicopters weren‘t a thing then.

No he‘s not. That‘s exactly what happened in this operation. It‘s even in the article the OP linked.

They crash a lot of helicopters when they try this stuff- easy to confuse one with another. There was at least one helicopter crash in the Iranian operation you are thinking of, but stealth helicopters weren‘t a thing then.

Closer parallel would be the Scripals and Salisbury.I wonder what the US' reaction would be to another country doing exactly the same with them. You might be thinking of a Reagan era operation involving Iran.Bin Laden was hiding out in Pakistan & helicopters were used for this also. Allegedly they were cutting edge stealth & one crashed into Osama's compound. Pakistani military claimed they weren't informed & had a hissy fit. Bon Laden's body transported to US aircraft carrier & disposed of at sea after last rights (or Muslim equivalent) carried out by religious guy.
All the above from memory. Am I about right??
