The passenger window on my 2006 Cayman S stopped working a couple of weeks ago and taking the door apart this weekend revealed the cable has rusted and snapped.

Looking online, it looks like there are repair kits for a couple of tenners or a new Porsche regulator is nearly £200. Are the repair kits a false economy? I hear the non-Porsche regulators aren't worth the money, but if it's just a case of using a new cable in the existing Porsche regulator, surely that would be OK?

I fitted a repair kit from eurocar parts on the drivers side of my 2009 Cayman and had no trouble with it. I don't know if it helped but I put silicone grease on the cables to prolong their life.

I have always just bought aftermarket ones, never had an issue.

May only last 10 years instead of 15 years, but so what?
