Nissan tops the residuals charts
Forget the Boxster, it's a 350Z you want
Think a Porsche Boxster carries the best residuals?
Think again: it's the Nissan 350Z. According to Autocar's Insider Dealing column, the extra options you have to add to make the German car resalable (as well as liveable with) mean that it will lose 18 per cent of its value after a year.
The muscular 350Z on the other hand is said to be among the most wanted cars on the used market. The price falls only 13 per cent after a year, said the report.
So if you want a great car plus top residuals, buy a Nissan. Never thought I'd ever write that....
Discussion
The residuals are strong now, but wait til the market get flooded with them, like the TT, then expect residuals to fall, or, just wait for the next must have car to come along, then that will be the next best for residuals.
I bought a Focus RS when you could sell it for more than you paid for it, but now, I see some strugling to sell for £15-16k.

Nissan are not over supplying them (like Honda didn't over supply with the Integra R) and the cars have cast iron reliability. Add in good dynamics and styling and hey presto residuals are very good. The Nissan will never be like the TT (in resale values) as Nissan will never supply as many/have the same amount of customers as Audi did with the TT. One of my cars is a Nissan and it has gone 34000 miles/3 years with NOTHING wrong - had 3 services totalling £750 in all that time. No wonder people rate them as used buys.
A new boxster is 34000
nissan 27000
so thats only 7000 differance
I have had 2 boxsters and I am bias
but you have the "porsche" not Nissan name
and a boot you can put lugage in without that bar in the way.
Still this thread is about values.
I lost 10% on mine in 11month
I paid £34000 and sold it for £31500.
I know were My money would go If I had any.

Having recently sold our Chimaera after 7 years of ownership we were looking for something different and settled on the Nissan 350Z Roadster. There are just too many Porsche Boxters on the road for this car to be seen as something 'special' and this as well as the large price differential were deciding factors.

Hats off to you, how you getting used to a car where things don't fall off each week ?? (Lol !!)
I'd go for the Porsche every time, but am also biased, but don't like Boxsters, simply too many on the road for my liking. One question, do you miss the Chimaera ?
Cheers - Swill
I miss the TVR in the sense that it was more of a 'special occasion' car - there is nothing that matches the sound when the engine first kicks into life!. However after 7 years we were looking for a change and a different driving experience. The Nissan is easier to live with and more practical on long distances where the TVR noise became tiring.
Our TVR was very reliable - the only repairs being the exhaust head gaskets (twice). However it was built at a time when the factory was really churning them out and I expect the old saying 'practice makes perfect' is highly relevant on hand built cars.
The Nissan also handles a lot better - have you seen how the 350Z Top Gear lap times compare ?
Porsche 911 turbo - 1.31.0
Vauxhall VX 220 turbo - 1.31.3
Honda NSX Type R - 1.31.6
BMW M3 - 1.31.8
Nissan 350Z - 1.31.8

We've just signed up for a 987 2.7 Boxster, I'm picking it up on Saturday.
It's so interesting, hearing the negative comments about the Boxster, as it is for all intents and purposes the best car in it's class. IMHO, it's well worth paying the extra premium for what is essentially a better car.
Personally I don't believe that there are too many on the roads, you could say that about most cars. What I will say is that we're not buying ours for badge snobbery, simply we feel it's the best car for us in the circumstances and I for one, can't wait to get behind the wheel. It's a baby CGT, is what it is!

FWIW I like the 350Z a lot (especially the way it goes!), but I'm a little unsure about the styling. Sorry.

and also the car is pants only had mine 2 months then sold it
way way way over rated and slow no idea where they get the figures from
this is the most over hiped car in the press the last two years god knows why.
looks ok though.
but there bringing out a better one next time
then watch the prices fall of this model. i bet you will not even be able to sell em at any price.

350Z great car, however I can't understand the comparision with the Boxster - as for the residuals check out the price of a 97 Boxsters - still between 15k and 20K depending on spec. Every seen an 8 years old Nissan fetch over 1K.
Finally there is a 350Z for sale in a garage on the A40 near Wemberly for 17,999 - been there for months - but might be a grey import.
