eBay and PayPal

What's the reasoning behind this? Are they splitting up or is it a money-laundering/tax thing?

ETA: Aha... on the 'Seller Onboarding' page... (who thinks of these titles?!)

'Government regulations require these details (nationality and DoB) so we can send you payments. We need this info so we can verify your identity.'

'eBay will now securely manage your payments when items sell instead of PayPal.'

Ah thanks. Seems that payments take will longer to arrive which will delay despatch accordingly, and eBay will pocket the old PayPal fee or most of it.

I didn't know Gumtree and Schpock were owned by eBay. I have the idea that Gumtree is free junk for caravan-dwellers, and Schpock is for girls selling off clothes. Which of the three would be best for a normal domestic account and occasional sales? I suppose they aren't international like eBay.

It’s really not a big deal when you are changed over. They’ve been split for years...

It actually makes buying on eBay much better. eBay now offers modern payment types such as Apple Pay etc - which will only help with conversion rates thus your sales.

I requested daily payments and now receive money from ebay daily - instead of emptying a paypal account daily.

The most annoying thing for me is that I used to like paying my fees monthly, I’d pay them all via Amex and earn ca. 500k Amex points PA in doing so!!

I've recently converted to managed payments and have a couple of observations......

1) The money takes longer to reach you, previously with paypal the money was available within a few minutes of the item being purchased. Now theres a 24hr "processing" stage where ebay keep the money, and then the money is sent on the next business day. For sales made on a Thursday of a bank holiday weekend the payment doesn't actually reach your bank account until the following Wednesday! Whilst most payments hit your bank account relatively quickly after ebay say they've sent it a couple of mine have taken around 24 hours, so effectively another day later

2) If you buy Royal Mail postage via ebay then the funds are collected from your paypal account, previously this would use any paypal balances from sales made, but ebay don't yet do this (Etsy do take it from your etsy balance)

Overall its pretty effective, but not as quick to get the money as it was previously with paypal payments

Thanks for the comments. I only use eBay for minor domestic stuff so I was more curious than anything else. Presumably, having once demanded that you accept PayPal, they will now refuse it as a payment option!

Been using if for 8 months now

No problems at all, cutting out paypal is a good thing in my book as it keeps things all in one place.
