As per title....my 80yr old Nan can't sleep not knowing what this oddity is spotted in the fields. It can't be too heavy given the small branch it appears to be hanging on. Any ideas?!

It's not a hive.

It looks like a net or something man-made.

Outside chance it's a monk parakeet nest according to Google Lens, but they use twigs, but perhaps there was an abundance of string.

That’s very bizarre - never seen anything like it! Is it actually about the size of a football? Is it in the UK?

My guess its a ball of the string they use for the netting that goes round large haybales all wrapped up into a ball and blown by strong winds into a tree.
