Meeting outstanding humans

New topic that I hope has some legs.
Have you ever met someone that you just knew had achieved something special even if you didn’t know it?
My old man said to be many years ago that on meeting this man

he knew he was in the presence of a special human being and it would have felt that way even if he hadn’t known what he achieved.
Have you met someone that had an aura about them maybe? Or have you met someone that simply had an outstanding human achievement? |

I met Mikhail Gorbachev when I was 12 and he was captivating. Prior to this I’d met other celebrities who were nice, but there was always a feeling of get in/get out about them. MG made me feel like he was excited to meet me, which was very special. He had a great double handshake too.

Let me explain...despite being born with a club foot and having muscle wasting disease in her left leg, she endured multiple operations that mean her left leg is now all but useless and yet she has never once complained, her left foot is now fused and does not flex which means she is in constant pain for which the NHS response is

Yet despite all of this, she has never once decided to sit on the dole and claim benefits, has always worked even when bringing up three kids almost single handedly.

Arnold Schwarzenegger when he was Governor of CA.
He came into a restaurant flyers.
He was very charismatic and a pleasure to talk to.
Sad as I am I kept the flyer as a momento.
And a copy of the Front page of the San Francisco Chronicle where, at lower left, you can clearly see my left index finger.
The guy shaking his hand was my Service Manager who was not an Arny fan, hence no smile.

I have always admired that man. Truly historic.Must have been amazing for you.
Nobody famous or well known, but one of my former CEOs at a smallish, not particularly notable company. He was ex-military, but was very charismatic, relatable and tirelessly loyal. I have never been in the services but you could tell very quickly he was a leader and people were keen to go along with/support him.
This all sounds really cheesy, like something from A Few Good Men, and the qualities are hard to pin down/describe. Normally I would only 'follow' someone in such a role to ensure I didn't miss, but in his case... I can see how people can be influenced to action by someone with such a magnetic personality, whether it be for good or bad.

Kevin Sinfield, who was probably only really known to Rugby League fans prior to his amazing 7 marathons in 7 days last year.
I'm a similar age and remember watching him at his first team debut and evolve over the years since. Always humble, but a very articulate leader and got to the top of his sport mainly through being the hardest worker and insipiring others through his actions.
I've been fortunate enough to spend a bit of time with him through work connections, and whether its one to one or in a group, whenever he speaks you're compelled to listen and take note.

My uncle, sadly long gone, used to invent stuff. His specialist field was optics and he was responsible for the millimetre wave technology now being used in airport scanners. He was such a nice man and was always so curious and interested in everything. He also had the amazing ability to make it all sound incredibly simple and for a few minutes or hours you’d know what it feels like to be a genius.

I’m sure at 12 I’d have been far more excited about meeting Arnie! It was all quite incredible, he was opening a CLIC building down the road from our school. The head came in and asked the teacher if we could make our way down there sharpish as it’d be good to have some kids around for the photos. Off we went with only a vague understanding as to who this guy was and why we were meeting him, but it turned into an incredible memory. Must have been amazing for you.
