Edited for readability.

Who did you buy it from, and did you do an HPI check before you bought it?

Do you have a V5 and do ALL the numbers match?

OK, might be time to talk to your Dad's cousin. But go armed with information biggrin

https://www.carguide.co.uk/car-check/free-hpi-chec... is a very very limited check, but should show whether the car is actually a write-off. As suggested above, check ALL the numbers match, so you know what's what. I suspect a car dealer would be less than pleased to have sold a write-off, as it doesn't reflect well on them, but don't go shouting the odds at them before doing a bit of homework yourself, and maybe approach them with a puzzled tone "Cuz, there's something odd about my new motor - DVLA aren't letting me tax it?" I suspect eventually a refund will appear from Swansea in the form of a cheque, but that's less to worry about than the car.

Probably worth not driving it in the meantime, as you now KNOW it's hooky according to DVLA, and therefore you OUGHT to tell your insurers.

I paid last night for hpi check car doesn't show has a right off just shows car is scrapped. I have contacted my dads cousin & at 1st fobbed me off then gathered a bit more information & waiting for him to contact me. It's a shame because i love the car but if i can't drive it it's clearly no use to me & rightly want my money back.

I'm confused how can a car be moted & insured yet dvla say it's down has scrapped.

Thanks for replying
