Z4 SI Roadster
Discussion
I have been running my Polestar 2 as a daily for circa 3 months now (fantastic car) but have had a need for something that makes noise and has a gearstick.
Due to getting married next year I wanted to keep the budget below £5k and as such looked at Z4s as I owned a cheap 3.0 SE one before and felt it offered great vfm.

The car itself I got this a 2006 2.5 SI Sport with 120k miles and I gave £3,150 for it. The car being a sport has the better seats and wheels, lowered suspension and also had an upgraded head unit, gaptech roof module, ZHP gear shift, wheel spacers and the roof motor already relocated to the boot.
The car itself had good service history but does need a few bits doing to it which are as follows:
New Bottom Arms (MOT advisory) - £220 to sort at the Zed Shed
Front Bumper Re-Paint - Quoted £275
Exhaust Sleeve (MOT advisory) - Sorted myself for £20
In addition to the above I have replaced the wheels with CSL reps (will be refurbed to silver) refurbed the steering wheel, wet sanded the headlamps, replaced the vanos solenoids and I am in the process of refurbing the leather.
All in the car should owe me around £3,800 - £4,000 including a diff and gearbox oil change and the refurb of the CSL wheels which for what you get seems a bargain to me.

That looks cheap and a good bargain for what it is and great for open top fun. I would assume they're getting to the bottom of their depreciation now and likely to start rising at some point when demand starts increasing due to their low prices.
Saw one of the new z4's recently and it looked HUGE! Haven't looked into the reviews of those but I assume they're becoming geared towards GT cars now rather than small compact sport cars of the past. Most likely to be so much heavier than previous models but I guess better performance.

Hopefully so, the 3.0 SIs are starting to be worth more than the 2nd generation already which to my eyes don't look as good. A good low mklleage one can now be £8-9k. The new Z4s are £50k for M40i version but as you say its a very different type of car. Apart from the electric steering rack these are a pretty pure and basic sports car to be honest especially once you ditch the run flats.

Monaco Blue
I thought Monaco Blue as well, when I run the vin number it says it is Nacht Blue 453 which I have never heard of. Its one of the rarer colours for a Z4 anyway and makes a change from silver or black.

Debating on keeping my Montego Blue example or chopping it in for an E93 M3. With a baby, 4 seater convertible makes more sense.g3org3y said:

I have seen a cheap high mileage Z4M Coupe for £11k on the forums which is tempting me but I need to try and show restraint.

It would seem a sensible move and the E93 M3 is a great car the running costs are just a lot more! The benefits of these are the engines are pretty bulletproof and if anything goes wrong its cheap to fix.

Yes, the N52 is a decent engine. Have it also on my 330i and 630i. Just not getting any use out of the Z4. It's only been out once this year and that was for an MOT. Otherwise, it's just been sat in the garage since last autumn. You can get 35mpg on a run as well which for the type of car is impressive...
