Garages in the south west

Hi everyone, got in my s3 this morning and couldnt select reverse. 1st was a nightmare too but just about selected it. The clutch biting point seems to have moved slightly lower too. Think its got something to do with the knocking noise ive had. The gearbox seemed to have a bit of movement. What garages do other pistonheads use in the south west? (im located in swindon, Wiltshire). Would give it to my regular garage but the task might be a bit daunting for them.

This is turning out to be a strange problem! with the engine running no gear can be selected. When the engine is off all gears can be selected?!? any thoughts?

Almost definitely a clutch problem. Sounds like the clutch is not disengaging the drive when you press the pedal down.

Could be seals in either the master or slave (or both) gone. Check that there is fluid in the master cylinder. If there is none you have a leak. If there is some then the fluid could be leaking past the seals in either the master or slave.

Fairly straightforward to fix with a seal kit or new cylinders. Otherwise it's going to be something mechanical in the actuating lever, could be a pain because you'll have to take the engine out to check.

If you do a search on this forum you'll find plenty of advice on how to fix the hydraulics.

Hiya, a quick check for oil around the clutch pedal for oil is a good indication that your clutch cylinder is weeping, then its time for new seals or a new cylinder. Good luck and I hope this helps.

Been looking at the s series alternative parts list for info on the master cylinder etc. (to give the information to my mechanic) are these parts ford granada parts. The alternative parts list is good for part numbers but it would be nice to know where the parts come from

No they're not Ford parts (at leat not Sierra or Grannie). Ford use cable for their operating mechanism. Not sure where they are from the master is very similar to my old Vixen one which is a TR^ part but can't imagine that would be fitted to a 1989 car. Mind you with TVR anythings possible!!!!!

Could any old motor factors source a suitable part from the part numbers on the alternative list? ive been to factors with part numbers before and all they said was whats the vehicle and year for that part number. Always an uphill battle trying to explain the situation.
