Hello all

Interesting site. I'm enjoying reading all the posts

I am hoping to buy a new Elise and had decided on the 111s. More power/luxury than the standard model and not as expensive as the 111R.

However browsing through the posts I noticed one about the possible end of the 111S due to Rovers collapse and therefore not using the K series lump any more.

Does anyone no any more about this/possible timescales for replacement. I don't want to spend £27K for a new model to be released soon :(

I would welcome your thoughts.

Register over on Seloc, I think someone said that the rover engines are no more and Lotus will be offering a lower powered Toyota engine in the other models. Also this guy is looking to sell his 111r for just over £23k

If you're able to spend £27k on a 111S then surely you could go the extra thousand and get the 111R? I went through the same decision process and I'm glad I went with the R, plus you won't have the engine dilemma!

Hi Phil,

I am the guy who mentionned that Strd and S will no more be on order. At least in Belgium... I phone to mine dealer and another one confirmed it.
As you probably red I initialy ordered a S to move to an R. For sure I am (very) happy with the choice, spêcially now that the car is paid. I finally had to take the touring pack (long story but if I wanted the car quicly it was the option and I was seeing the summer coming). Anyway the difference was finally 5000 euros.
S versus R is a very long story. It is true that the 2nd came give you a real kick which is addicting almost funny to feel. However to use it you need the road to and the willingness to trash it. When using the car for sport and fun, you try to use it "all the time", but if you use the car "normally" the power to 6200 rpm is the same as the S (if you want to check this, there is a nice graph on www.bemani.ch look for elise/exige compressor, then datas or so) and you do not need more. The car is already very funny to 6200 rpm (OK NOT SO funny but not to complain)
The S is probably a more homogeneous car. With the R you discover something else but also are "frustrated" to have to look for it.
If you try both for a short period you will be amazed by the R but if it is a full week test and money is quite a issue, I am not sure the S could not be the deal.
I know the gear boxes are not the same, the weight, etc... but I am not sure that on everyday life you feel this so much. (Probably I need more track days, I agree)
Ben

Why buy new when for several grand less you can get a car which is just run in and same spec.

I just don't understand why anyone would p!ss away several thousand pounds when there's bargains to be had all over.
