This question has been asked many times so forgive me.

I have £250k in various accounts. Don't need the cash for anything pressing but would like a degree of fluidity. Not interested coke, hookers or ferrari's. Putting it into a pension isn't an option as i have an income from my pensions. Mortgage free. Until a couple of years ago it was getting around 2% which was acceptable - just. It's now getting 0.5% max. I have £50k in premium bonds. Don't want a BTL, been there done that, too much grief. Stock market seems risky and volatile atm and i'm a bit risk averse. Is my only option to keep it in cash or any suggestions how to make a better gain than i am currently. Any advice appreciated.

You're going to have to accept a degree of risk or else leave it where it is.

Pick 2 or 3 funds and split 50k into each, remaining 100k in liquidity for risk spread.

Search funds as a starting point on Trustnet. DYOR; following two are performing well at present.

Slater growth
VT Teviot UK smaller companies

Avoid US heavy funds at moment as they are volatile - more than any market the US does seem to be in a bit of a bubble at the moment

Inflation is stripping you of 5-7k a year at the moment, doing nothing is expensive.

P.S .. you should know that even i dont listen to my advice at times.

Given we are on a car forum.

Given that cars are an excellent investment vehicle (pun intended) as they are CGT free.

I would buy a very nice examples of a few cars that have not jumped in price yet.
Given that ICE is being banned in new cars the demand will increase, anything naturally aspirated and manual from a good manufacturer will be worth while.

Aston Martin V12 Vantage.
Porsche 911 Manual pre 991.
Lotus Elise.
Ferrari 355 (the best Ferrari ever at the time and at rock bottom now).
Porsche 928.
Mk1 Focus RS.

That's my take on it anyway.

Would you consider investing it in a company to get monthly / quarterly dividends on your return?

Sounds like your retired, with a pension. Why not just enjoy it, build an Ultima or something.

The forum sponsors are doing pretty well for a lot of members, myself included. Worth a look at the sticky threads.

Having so much cash makes you highly vulnerable to inflation. Buying assets like a buy to not let may be safer.

Perhaps look at less volatile funds like Troy Trojan or some of the better known multi-asset funds like LifeStrategy?

Definitely worth a look/ask on the Intelligent Money threads too if you don't want to DIY.
