I find many watches that I really like, yet frequently there is a detail that spoils it for me, not just something that I personally do not like, but often something that seems to be at odds with the rest of the watch, which is the reason I like it in the first place.

For example, a lovely clean classical face with exquisite markers and perfectly painted/printed Arabic numbers, then just ruined by some icon at 12, instead of continuing with a number 12.

Power reserve, particularly on an otherwise clean face (Grand Seiko are notable offenders here).

A date window, the edge of which cuts into a numeral. Ditto sub dials that intrude into and overlay numerals.

Nuts or/with screw slots that are recessed flush so can't be turned anyway. I don't mind things that are for appearance sake, but these make no sense.

Just a few of mine.

What's your pet peeve that puts you off something that would otherwise be perfect?

The word 'Rolex' on the dial.

Meteorite faces.

California dials.

Marine watches.

Increasingly: Chronographs.

The ‘orrible, stiff slippy bezel on the older Bond Seamaster.

Tudor’s fake rivets. Wanted a BB GMT until I put the watch on & this detail put me off.

Omega Seamaster bracelets & HEV.

Gaps between the lug & the end link. Nitpicking maybe but tried a GS SBGA 229 for size & the bracelet integration was poor (on a expensive watch).

A mate has a Rolex Explorer, I like the watch but always like to have the date on the dial, the Explorer II has taken care of that. So it's not a deal breaker. smile

I find Chronographs too "busy" for my tastes, I do own a Seiko PADI diver Chronograph but I bought that as I had a Seiko Diver stolen from a hotel room over a decade previously and I always missed it so I bought my current one as a replacement, it doesn't get a great deal of wear though.

I agree with Tudor BB fake rivets, I would have bought one by now if it wasn't for those, probably still will but it keeps putting me off so it may be a Nato or leather strap purchase.

It was robbiekahn's Bronze Stowa Fleiger that prompted this. Absolutely gorgeous watch, but ruined for me by a big solid triangle mountain with big dots like ears on either side at 12, yet the other numbers and the rest of it is achingly exquisite.

I hate a cyclops so most Rolex out for me, also a poor bracelet or no bracelet is a deal breaker.

I own a Bond Seamaster and Black Bay so hev's, bezels and rivets dont bother me. Dont understand the gripe about bracelets as I think Omega have some of the best imo

The Bond SMP 300 I sold had zero micro adjust on the bracelet, I couldn’t get it just right. Awful.

Watch crowns that look like they belong on a 19th century pocket watch

Apologies in using robbiekhan's image (Sorry Rob) of his new Stowa Bronze ..... But that crown...!

I can see lots of you are fawning over this new purchase .. so I'll don my tin hat and flak jacket before I press submit

How much nicer the Stowa and the Hamilton would be with a 12.
