Battery replacement...to use trickle charger or not?

Is it worth putting the car on charge while doing this to retain memorised functions? If so should i use the port in the boot or directly clamp the battery leads.

I just left my charger connected up in the boot, worked fine

I left the ctek connected to the charging points when I changed the battery on my Cayenne this morning. The settings were all there when I restarted with the new battery.

Some advise against this due to the chance of the disconnected battery cables shorting against some metal during the battery change. One solution is to isolate them in separate disposable rubber gloves while they are disconnected.

I didn’t bother ,v12 vantage . All was fine afterwards

You might think it's fine when you've reconnected but you've lost the engine misfire monitoring until you do the rundown proceedure.

Not critical as the system is poor anyway but helps if misfire is really bad.

Depends on the charger. Some will automatically shut off when they detect there is no battery in the circuit, whereas others advertise they can support the car while the battery is changed

Yep, thats exactly what happened.
all fine when checked prior to disconnecting.
but the Cteck had shut off as soon as battery disconnected ....
so back to reprogramming the system
