Domain name & trademark
Discussion
Ok….
I own a trademark in some categories, let’s call it Highrevs and domain names highrevs .com abs .co.uk
Begin business just before lockdown so everything has been dormant.
Just had notification from the IPO that a company hypothetically called High-revolutions .com wish to register the trademark highrevs in different categories.
I don’t have a problem with that registration BUT why would they want to change their brand to HIGHREVS when they don’t have the domain names? They also make £1-2m profit a year.
Do I offer them the domains or wait for them to use their new names a while first. How much??

It’s left alone simply due to it being a category of business that can’t reopen for another month.
The purpose of the TM has not really presented itself like we thought it would so won’t make any difference if we sold it or not.
Seems odd for another company to TM an abbreviated version without obtaining the domains first - after all they are a tech company!
They’ll simply be using their logo to promote our business

Is the notification definitely from IPO? I've had plenty of Chinese "ip registrants" warning me of someone wanting to register local domains. The first one panicked me for about five minutes. then I thought why do I care if someone wants to use whoozit.cn etc when I have whoozit.com?
So you've no intention of using the TM or domains. This legally makes the TM void as you have to be using the TM or have intent to.
Domain wise, they're only worth what they're willing to pay. You could approach them but they may be happy with some other version of a domain rendering your domains of no value.
They may think it worth it if the price cheap enough. Or they may really want them and offer you a good sum.
It's truly a 'how long is a piece of string question'.
I've paid as much as 1k for a domain. And there's one I want now, that's 5k - but I cannot justify the purchase of it and so I went with a different domain that does the job.
