If you really believe a piece of Chinese crap is worth investing in, fill your boots. I'll wager it'll under deliver and be crap.

Were you in charge of British Leyland when the Japanese cars became mainstream in the 70's and 80's? Look at the leap in a decade with Hyundai and Kia in EV/Hybrids.

Last time I looked a Chinese company owned Lotus, Volvo and had a 10 % share of Mercedes.

Other than the brilliantly eccentric name (what's next? Bad Dog? Acceptable Guinea Pig? Slightly Better Than Average Ring Tailed Lemur?), this car can keep you occupied for hours playing "spot the bits of copied styling".

MiTo for the headlights.
Tesla for what would ordinarily be a front grille.
Mashup of Punto and Leaf for the rear.

Must be more besides; the rear window area looks familiar but I can't quite put my finger on it!

The sad part is that it's all just so familiar. The same racism was seen when Japanese cars started to enter the Western market, and it ended up destroying a lot of British brands that didn't take them seriously and were simply crap in comparison to Japanese quality.

China makes some great cars. They make the batteries for Tesla and Polestar/Volvo. If you look at actual reviews of their vehicles they are built to a high standard. MG has become established in the UK and the ZE EV is a great car.

Overcome your racism and there are some interesting cars coming from China. If you can't get past it though I suggest moving on to a different thread.

Chinese industry can and does produce any level of quality you care to specify. Don’t forget they make pretty much everything we consume and they do it all with little or no regard to patents or IP too.

Save the vitriol for the people responsible for outsourcing everything to China and to consumers for demanding ‘cheap at any price’. Can’t blame China for fulfilling a demand we created or for catering to their own internal markets either.

Genuine question. Did the Japanese engage is massive state sponsored IP theft when they built up their industry?

they make huge amounts of very reliable electronics products for western companies

the range of chinese EVs on show at shaghai was very impressive, they put the germans low volume rehased ICE to EV offerings to shame

Indeed, China has the talent and resources and will manufacture anything to any standard depending on the specification. Apple and Samsung products are made in China.

Take the textile industry: the same factory will make clothes for high end London stores or base supermarket demand. They merely have different production lines, different quality material and different skill level staff.

yes I've worked with Chinese design and manufacture companies day in day out for over a decade now so I have a reasonable idea of their abilities and work ethic and I'd say they are at least as good as, probably better than, the North American and European companies I've worked with in the same roles.

China is many things, some of them not nice at all, but poor at engineering is certainly not one of them.

China does a great job of building to a price - and the common perception is that its a lower price. A lot (if not most) situations thats why things get shifted to China, but the irony isnt lost on me when on a different thread on the same page, talks about the build quality of Chinese made Teslas and them getting shipped to the EU for sale!

Comments of 'its as good as a European manufacturer' seem common and seriously, head over to the Tesla form and ask recent customers who received their Chinese built ones. They arent perfect, but arent shoddy either. But why the parallel? Since Tesla is a US company and its different, right? Maybe, and it could be an absolute piece of crap. But its at a significantly lower price point, so quite what do you expect? If the video is to be believed (can you believe anything on YouTube these days), what do you expect? New manufacturer and dont know how to build cars? Well Lucid and Rivian also have no track record yet we assume they will be built right?

Having spent some time dealing with Chinese products, when it comes to compliance and Type Approval, the Chinese will certify anything.

I have seen some seriously dangerous motorcycles which alarmingly came with a full EU Certificate of Conformity.

They seem to have little or no grasp of the concept of Aftersales care or backing up their products with a warranty.

They will assure you that they will but good luck making a claim or getting parts.

shout RACIST.....Don't know whether to groan or laugh my hernia truss off....

Problem is, I'm so sick to the back teeth of hearing racist bandied about over everything, I'm simply going to have to turn racist so I won't have to fend off any onslaught from the Frantic Wokist Inquisition...

PS...anybody thinking of buying a Chinese electric chariot would be well advised to watch this bloke's progress. Paid for a $31,000 supercar, received a Smart lookalike with something like a washing machine motor, 12v battery and chain drive...or something, can't remember the details.
