Can someone help me work out Costa and their coffees (takeaway).

I don’t go there often but when I do I normally get a flat white. There’s no messing around with size as they only do one size.

Until recently that is. Then there’s a medium and small size. Even the medium seems slightly smaller than before (but that could be just me).

Fast forward to today. I then get told there’s now small only. WTF?

I don’t really understand the difference between the latte, cappuccino and flat white. They all seem to be mostly milk and an espresso dumped in.

Is it just me lol. I’m overthinking this aren’t I.

Flat whites always have been sized as small. Fairly recently they introduced their "mini" cups which is probably were the confusion has come from.

In reality at chain cafes I think you're right, whatever you order you get a hot milkshake.

Even if you google 'how to make a flat white/latte/whatever' you get loads of different ratios of milk, water, coffee, froth etc.

Lost me at "flat white" is that just a cup of coffee with a bit of milk in it?

Esspreso = A shot of black coffee

Flat white = small coffee 50-50 coffee to milky foam with small bubbles.

Latte = Esspreso, lot of hot milk and a little foam The foam is usually in a leaf pattern or sqiggle

Cappucino = Esspreso, a little hot milk, and a lot of foam usually got a dusting on top

Mocha = A cappucino with chocolate sauce or powder stired in

Machiato = Esspreso with a little foam hat served in an espresso cup
Looks like a tiny cappucino really

Ristretto = A pointless half a shot of strong esspresso

Think thats the basics. Anything else is a variantion on those really

Yes thank you too.

The flat white seems to be my favourite but I wonder why they only do them as small

Because if they add a load more milk it basically becomes a latte. Which I would forgive anyone for ordering in a chain coffee shop as anything to take the edge off the horrendous quality of espresso is welcome.

Flat White is my go too coffee as I quite like a strong coffee. If you don't like strong coffee have a latte/ cappuccino.

Cap should be stronger than a flat white really as it is mostly foam vs actually milk.

More coffee in a flat white. Aldo smaller cup than what a cappucino is served in.
Cappucino is a morning breakfast drink. Flat white is an Aussie over caffinated invention.

What?

It’s a double shot in both.

Cap mostly foam not milk. So net is that I think they’re at least similar if not cap stronger taste

Only in Costa type shops. Traditionally its 1 shot in a cappucino. Tastes have dictated 2 shots.

Double espresso or a strong black for me, ideally not Costa but they are far better than Starbucks!

It's probably because a Costa small flat white has the equivalent of 3 and a half cans of red bull in caffeine in it, imagine if they did larger!

So does any coffee from any coffee shop. How does this not makes sense to folk? All coffees start with the same amount of coffee, the only thing that differs is the milk/water/foam etc you add to it. Of course if you're a total philistine buying one of those bucket things then perhaps it'll have more than 2 shots just so you can actually tell its a coffee, but mostly its as I say.

Redbull has many more things in it that act as a stimulant that just caffeine.
