I have a left hand drive V12 with km and kph on the odometer and speedo respectively.

I am not getting on with trying to mentally calculate the kph to mph conversion every time I enter a different speed limit. My kph speedo does not have a smaller, inner dial with mph.

I know that I can download a gps speed reading, but this doesn't work when I am using the phone for hands-free phone calls.

I have bought a mph speedo and rpm cluster to replace my existing one. Obviously the speed on the dial will now read in mph but the odometer will not be consistent with the actual distance that the car has covered.

Please can you let me know the best way to document the speedo change please? My reasons are entirely legitimate but I do not want to scare off any future buyers by not being completely transparent about the change.

Lockwoods already do a KMPH speedo dial for the 456 (assuming that is the car you are talking about?). They may be able to do an MPH one for you if you ask. No need to replace the existing cluster and the odometer will still record in KM's if they can accomodate this for you.

I have known people put stickers on the speedo at 30, 40, 60 hehe

I am in the just do the conversion camp, and it's been pretty good for 16 years, and very nice when do get on the continent.

If you are going to change, I would just keep the original. The existing MOT certificates and service history backs up those readings. And then just be open about it when you come to sell.

The interesting thing is going to be the MOT history, will the whole lot become miles or will stay as KM up until it becomes miles.

I had understood that a UK registered car needed to have a MPH speedo?

I will see if there is an option of informing the DVLA so that everything is as transparent as possible when the time comes to sell.

By way of an update, I found a digital GPS speedo in MPH which sits if a phone holder on one of the airvents . This means that I don't have the hassle of having to source a replacement speedo, with the associated issues of how to document this.

Probably the best solution in the rend.
