Work Experience at a Law firm?

I'm not quite sure if this the right place to put this... so I appreciate it may get moved 
lol
Getting to the point:
A 16/17 year old family friend has no GCSE exams this summer ('because Covid'
) so effectively will have nothing to do between June and September, when they start Sixth Form.
They have shown an interest in Law so, to me, it's an ideal time to get 3 months work experience in a law firm, to see if they like it.
Would that even be possible in the current climate?
Are law firms / Chambers even in the office now?
And would they take on Work Experience positions (whether or not it was 'Covid')?
Of course, one route would be to write to local firms and see if it would be an option, but it would be good to know if it is even likely before potentially wasting our time and the firms' time.

When i tried bespoke companies (outside of the school's list) for my son's 17yo work experience all i got was no; the reason being under 18. it seems it's a minefield for companies to employ under 18s unless they are setup for this, perhaps the reason of the "list".

Where are you based?
I work for a large Firm of Solicitors, with various offices, head office in Leeds. Majority of staff still at home, some returning two days a week and most court hearings are remote.
No harm in asking local firms, chambers to do anything, get some experience of different areas of law etc and what it is like actually working in law.

Location would be Suffolk/Essex/London (potentially) but I agree that social distancing nonsense is going to be a key issue.
I think I'll propose them writing to local places and seeing what happens. As noted, there is a world of difference between different parts of Law so it would be useful to focus on one specialism if there is a preferred option!
I would hope that the person in question could survive without their phone - they are pretty adult (fortunately) so would expect them to not be a total moron
