Hi everyone,

I am looking for a second car to pull out on sunny days or maybe for a spot of track.

I've owned an S2 111S and thought it was a cracking car, but I'm after something a little more extreme and quirky.

Does anyone have any advice or experience on owning a 340R?

cheers

Or rick111s is considering selling his Honda'd S1 which has 210 bhp and more extra's and fancy track bits than you can shake a stick at.

Probably the most sorted S1 out there for similar money.

Exige and 340R are chalk and cheese.

I love the 340R but you are seriously limited when you can use it. Fine when the weather is as it is now but for the other 350 days of the year?

Not cheap to run either. The VHPD K series is fragile and the one peice body needs to come off for maintenance meaning lots of labour.

Exige / 240R are fantastic but a lot more (£20K more in the case of the 240R - if you can get hold of one)

340R would be my perfect 3rd car if I could afford to keep it in the garage until those few and far between sunny weeks and didnt have to worry about service costs.

3 weeks ago (23rd June) I saw a 340R on the M1 just past Toddington (?) services, at 5.00 in the morning!! Looked like a great way of waking yourself up!

anyone off here?

i was in my mrs's 106 cos we were on our way to Gatwick and the cases wouldn't fit in my S1...

i havnt owned it long enough to check the running costs but looking at the previous bills it doesnt seem too bad for routine mainance. depends what you compare it with. regarding reliability mines the std 177 model i heard the 190 can be stressed. before i bought i spoke to plenty of owners and feed back was positive. buy the best you can afford and the lowest milage is sensible advice. i highly recommend the car for fun.

Cheers Andy your feedback is well noted.

I would only plan on using a second car on sunny days anyway, so I guess I have to determine whether it would be more fun that an elise or something similar.

Also I guess you get exclusivity with the 340R because they are so rare.

Do you know what the service schedule is like and how much each service costs?

What sort of mileage car should I not go over?

Do you know if people tend to buy a 340R for track use or just a fun car?

Cheers GTV

You got to bear in mind services costs.

I was £207 to change a lightbulb a few years back!!!!Also availability of parts etc.

If that does not put you off, go for one with Aa UCR box. Brilliant!

The guy that owns EVO magazine has got one and he has talked about it quite a lot over the years. If you have a look at their website it should give you some info. As I remeber not for the light of wallet

I think most of the costs are labour due to the one piece body design.

If you're handy with the spanners (and as it's a 2nd car it won't have to be re-assembled to re-use the next day), a bit of DIY maintenance could ease the running costs.

I think the evo 340R had a mod done to the body splitting it into two pieces rather than one, which is supposed to reduce future labour costs significantly.

theres a guy called steve williams nr windsor getting a reputation as the 340 guru. he does the cambelt with body on i heard (with mirrors!!) it may be worth a chat with him regarding prices and frequency. my bills show last sevice was a few hundred. theres plenty of cars around with around 5k miles or so, id say the lower the better (mine had 4.5k). the cars seem to be either fun or track. its easy to find a car that hasnt been tracked, the ownwers i met were genuine and honest guys. go fo it!

Hey Andy,

Thanks for the encouragement. I'll get out there and see what the lay of the land looks like. If I come across a sound car I might well be tempted.

Thanks for all of the advice.

I thought the yahoo group was for owners only and you had to verify ownership to get admitted? If not how do I join as I am at the `reading up` stage now before taking the plunge!

Anyone know of any minters out there for 20K which are definately worth a look? (and the trip over the channel)

I bought one a week ago and get it tonight - very very excited!

I'm not sure about the mileage thing - look at how many high mileage Exiges there are around. More important is whether or not you can live without a roof... For me, it's an essential part of having a very special experience.

If anyone wants to let me know (on or off line) about the yahoo group, that would be ace.

cheers
