Last week in my old job

I handed my notice in at my current place nearly a month ago. I work (soon to be past tense) as a technical sales engineer. No issues with the company but I'm definitely not cut out to be a sales rep. The technical side, visiting customers, project management and even the selling once you're there were all good,
but the forecasts, targets, try to see x many people a week, etc was affecting me.
I've made the decision to leave and start a new but related career in automotive, coordinating internal build projects at a motorsport specialist. Pretty significant pay cut and longer hours, but I'm really excited to be starting on Monday, really think I've made the right decision
Just thought I'd share as I've read a lot of good advice on these forums. Hopefully seeing that people take it on board, even if not as direct advice will keep us all helping each other out.
Everyone keeps asking me if I'm on the wind-down. I've never been so busy! Until a replacement is found full time, 3 of my colleagues are looking after my patch so I've been running them round, setting up meetings and introductions with key customers to make sure the handover goes well. Thankfully I'll be leaving on a high and with no bad feelings from either party. My boss has treated me well these last couple of years and been very supportine when things have been difficult, so I'm trying to do my bit to make this go smoothly.

That's the ideal scenario. If the new job isn't what you hoped, who knows, the door isn't closed on going back. Or your old boss might move on, and then headhunt you into his new company. rog007 said:

I've got a great team and the work's interesting. I'd like to work towards earning more eventually (happy to EARN it) as it was quite the drop financially, but the bills are paid and I get a bit of spending money. Don't regret a thing. Right now however I'm pleased to just work at doing the current job as best I can - I've only been there 5 minutes!
Your whole performance in the job you're leaving will be judged on your attitude in your last few weeks so keep being proactive and you'll leave on good terms.
Take the piss and wind down if you want everything you've done preceeding the notice being put in to be forgotten about.

Be nice, people! I was a technical sales engineer, worked in industrial pumps and sealing technologies (it's a relatively small industry, so don't want to be over-specific). Some of the job was measure up, specify things and manage installations, so that's been pretty transferable. A lot was more your sales-rep type job, which never really came naturally to me, though I did try. That's the job I signed up for though, so no complaints about the business, it just was something I struggled with, so thought it was best for everyone to bow out gracefully. I was texting my old manager the other day actually. Hopefully we'll get a pint soon.
Now I work in motorsport/vehicle development making sure things get built, so very much more in my wheelhouse!
