Wonder if anyone can help with this.

Just purchased a car that was manufactured in 2018 and is just within its initial 3 year warranty period. It was bought from a private individual and isn't a Porsche approved used car.

Will I be able to extend this warranty directly with Porsche without having to do a 111 point check or will they be funny about it because I've bought the car privately?

You should be able to extend it - i did exactly that last year - car bought privately in July - in October when it was three I booked it for an MOT and extended the warranty without the 111 check.

Servicing needs to be upto date

I extended the warranty on our 2018 4S Targa over the phone, no need for full inspection, as above just needs up to date OPC service history.

As the extended warranty is essentially a Porsche insurance policy (i.e. not an OPC product), I assume the prices are set and do not vary between OPCs? Need to extend mine soon and don't want to start calling around but will consider making a couple of calls if it might be worthwhile.

Be sure to renew before it expires otherwise the 111 point check comes into play. Price varies between model groups e.g 718 and 991 (dearer!).

Thanks. Waiting for Wilmslow OPC to call me back. Previous experience suggests it will be within the hour or not at all!

Sorted via OPC Stockport (I called them this morning having waited in vain for Wilmslow to return my call yesterday). 2Y at £1,840.

Hopefully you know about all the hoops you have to jump through to maintain the legitimacy of the warranty. N rated tyres. Absolutely no mods. Every single part on the car has to be Porsche. Even the battery.

Hey folks

An update to my issue. Bit miserable about it tbh but hopefully it can help someone else avoid this pitfall.

Purchased the car this week outside of the OPC network, 3 year original warranty expires on 21st May (car registered 21st May 2018). V5 is now in my name. Called Porsche, to buy an extended warranty the V5 has to have been in my name for 90 days.

This means Im now going to have to spend 3 months going into the summer with an un-warrantied GT3. I know these things are robust but I had a 991.1 that ate two engines during my ownership and I feel like i'm going to be babying my car hoping nothing goes wrong.

Love it if anyone has any suggestions or workarounds but I think I;m fked. Feeling really irritated at this putting a sour taste on collecting something I've been wanting for a really long time

TLDR - make sure the previous owner extends the warranty before you transfer the V5 if you're close to expiry.

Cheers

Was a it a direct purchase from previous owner or SOR via a reseller/dealer/Indy?

SOR. I was fine with paying for a new warranty and the 111 point check, but the car is unwarrantable for 90 days it seems

As you say disappointing… I would have thought the reseller would have advised to have gotten this in time.

I'm trying to remind myself these are first world problems and I'm very lucky to be putting an RS product in my garage. I just don't know if I can stomach doing many miles in it. Considering putting some road trips on hold.

Surely, in the unlikely event something major goes wrong, you still have the CRA 2015 to fall back on?

How financially impecunious was the Indy/dealer you bought it from?

You are right.

Its possibly the most prestigious dealer in the UK. They have been amazing throughout the process and its always been an ambition to buy a car from them. Just annoyed with myself for not researching this properly and sorting the warranty out in the previous owners name before the V5 was transferred.

I doubt there will be any issues - just feeling slightly flat about it and wanted to make sure others knew about the 90 day timeout when the V5 changes hands.

Dealer managed to sort it all out. Delighted! Now all I need is for the weatherman to forecast something more cup 2 friendly than the current intermittent monsoon weather.

How was it resolved if you don’t mind me asking?
