I am looking to find an insurance provider to provide cover for a motorbike workshop that will be used by the general public.

The cover required will range from using basic hand tools etc ... through to machinery such as welders, lathes etc ...

As this type of insurance requirement is new to me (this will be a new business startup) I am hoping that someone can reccomend an insurer that I can speak to and get some advice.

Thanks in advance.

I'm a broker and my first thoughts are you've got absolutely no chance of getting an underwriter to put terms on it.

Biggest concern being that Joe Bloggs could just turn up and start using a welder, insurers don't like heat processes at the best of times.

Will you be overseeing them i.e teaching and training the general public? If so you might get cover under a combined motor trade policy - covers liabilty, property etc.

Happy to ask one of my colleagues in our motor trade team to have a call with you to discuss it in more detail.

Are you looking to cover the fabric of the building or things like tools and liabilities?

Thanks for the response.

I probably should have put a bit more flesh on the bones of my OP.

Before Joe Public is allowed anywhere near any machinery, welding equipment etc ... they will go through an induction and training given on that particular piece of equipment.

Risk assessments & S.O.P's will all be developed and put in place before opening to the public.

Machinery and welding equipment will either be isolated or locked away and only released to those who have been inducted and trained.

I think the ideal way that you sell the risk to an insurer is that you are operating a training / educational centre for those wishing to work on their own vehicles.

If you are looking for liability / tools only maybe somebody like roadrunner / twi / zenith marque / markerstudy would write it.

For more than that you might get one of the household names to do it.

I'd always recommend using a broker than being direct but happy to input on here as you go along.
