Car flashed up with PADM issue a few weeks ago,car went into OPC who sorted it ,then today out for a drive it flashes up again, apparently these failures are quite common, not impressive .

Anyway more concerning is about 6 weeks ago I topped the oil up to about 1 bar under the max ,measured before and after and done maybe 1000 miles since then during which time it has been at the opc .Anyway driving it now and it flashes oil overfill ,this cannot be right so I pull over and run the measurement and it does show overfilled.
So I am either going crazy, or there is a fault on the car or someone is secretly filling my car up with oil.

That's really unlucky on the PADM. These parts are clearly made of cheese.

Re. the oil overfill I think there's a very specific procedure for checking it, I think the process is in the manual.

Surely if it was overfilled it would have shown up before now ,I’m not sure of the date but between 4-6 weeks ago and an easy 1000 miles since I put oil in.
I had a nightmare with faulty sensors many years ago with a new 997 turbo ,ended up making Porsche buy it back ,that’s what I’m really worried about ,2 faults showing up within seconds of each other .

Or water/ condensation if lots of short trips? Won’t add much - and will evaporate when engine to temp for decent period - but if already topped right up, may be enough to trigger flashing.

PS water from combustion not added by your OPC wink

I don't trust the dash bar graph. What happened to the good old traditional engine oil dip-stick which never ever lied.

I seen my conrod sitting on the road after topping up with oil to find out I had a faulty oil light

the issue isnt just on GT3's, my collegues car (718 CGTS, 12k miles, Porsche services, 37 months old) has just had one go pop. £1250!

No Warranty contribution from Porsche either despite a recent spend in the past 12 months of over £350k on 4 cars!

i cant wait to get out Porsche tbh!

I had one go on my 12 month old / 4000m 718 GT4 recently. It's the same part as fitted to 911s and they are crap for reliability.

Shocking really, then again not suprising. my 718 CGTS lets water into the rear lights and its a 'they all do that sir'

The salesman was suprised to hear that ive cancelled my 800 Volt Taycan order on hearing that news!

The first time one went was I think 3 days after the cars 3rd birthday ,fortunately I had extended the warranty.

One of the reasons I got out of my Porsche, to cover known failure points like these engine mounts you need a warranty....then you can't make simple mods to the car like Zunsport grills. They get you every way, just a rip off.

I'm more than happy with my car and given that I've started with the mods already will just self-warranty when my 3 years are up. I think I'll end up ahead longer term even with the odd PADM failure.

if you love the car (and i can see why you'd love a yellow GT4 with that exhaust!) then i think thats the right outlook, i dont think my 718 is special enough however to warrant frequent 1200 quid micky mouse failiures.

this is my first modern porsche and im very suprised by how poorly built the thing actually is. It is however more reliable than my Alfa 4c was, so its all relative.

My Evora 400 was built like a toyota in comparison to this porsche! smile

In what way do you think it's poorly built? Aside from the PADM failures the 981/718/991 series cars have been very reliable from what I can see, and seem solid enough to me...

We have three 718 C gts's and so far:

  • Mine has its Carbon GTS pack trim falling off by the steering boss and various rattles to the point my other half notices and she thinks the only cars worth buying are mini’s and fiat 500’s!
  • Mine has moisture in both rear light clusters and pooling water in the passenger side light
  • colleagues has faulty heated seat element in passenger seat squab base
  • Colleagues had the PADM fault after 12k miles and 37 months with full PSH.
this is across the span of 16 months, not a great experience so far.

the band all together, the white one has been trouble free, bar its gts badges flying off during a hand wash.

Wow, that's crazy! Definitely a bad run of things on those cars for some reason.

I just had a wonky rear spoiler and a faulty window switch in my 981 GTS over 4 years and 14k miles. On my GT4 I've had a broken carpet mat clip and the PADM failure.

So apparently the PADM engine mount they did not replace the first time ,failed .

So both of my PADMs failed within a couple of weeks of each other.

And my engine oil is too high, although they cannot explain why the warning did not come up in the 7 weeks and 1000+ miles I did since a top up.

Car has to be absolutely level for an accurate reading IME and, even then, if it’s only been out for a gentle run, will sometimes show a bar lower than when it’s had a proper workout, So you have to be really careful about just topping up oil ad hoc.

I have just had the same issue with the oil level on my GT4.

1. 'Noticed that the oil level indicator was at half (I like 3/4).
2. Thought it might be because the engine wasn't really warm so checked it again, still on half.
3. Added 250ml oil, car shows max !

The car at 25000 miles hardly uses any oil so in a way I was relieved, but the oil level display is definitely not the best ....

Lesson ... only add 100ml at a time ?
