I want to put a set of "wide", 19 inch wheels on a V8 Vantage (previous gen).

Because they're wide, I require a negative offset to keep the wheel "face" in line with the rim. However, unfortunately the forger doesn't provide negative offsets. I need a -24mm offset and the smallest they do is around +40mm.

Either the "face" sits 5-6 inches "inside" the front rim (which looks ****) or the axle length is increased.

I won't be doing this myself so I probably don't appreciate how big a modification this is. I'd get an engineering firm (any suggestions welcome).

How big is this change/is it possible to do this without ****ing around with the brakes?

Will this make driving worse?

(I'm deliberately omitting background detail to why i'm doing this)

Can’t use massive spacers ?

Can anyone find the post which explained the technicalities of steering geometry, including the tyre centre point of contact ?
Changing the tyre contact point with spacers, introduces handling complications.

The spacers will just be correcting the wheel offset, but they'll be very big and I wouldn't do it. Spacing the OE wheels out would affect the scrub radius.

In the US they can machine anything you want wheel related, even a one off design, 1, 2 or 3 piece. Probably cheaper to get 4 centres made than a wider axle.

Axle length increase, and by previous gen I assume you mean the VH Vantage.

The Vantage doesn’t have an axle per se, it has fully independent rear suspension. So to widen the track you’d need new drive shafts, new upper suspension arms and new suspension lower arms. As the leverage lengths would change you’d probably need different springs and dampers with different rates. All of this would move the hub out, which would take the brakes with it, although you’d need new, longer hoses. If the wheels are very wide you’d have to push the arches out - if you tried to go inboard and keep the outer face of the wheel roughly where it is as standard then you’re into major surgery on the body structure and subframe. With a much wider wheel and large negative offset you’d also probably have a problem with the suspension arms fouling the inner rim on full bounce and rebound. Messing with the brakes would be the least of your worries - you’d be into massive rear end surgery and I doubt the suspension would ever work correctly again.

Yeah someone else said avoid spacers.

May I ask if you had a particular forger in mind?

The GT12 and GT 8 are wide body, so presumably wider track.

Sorry, no. I've just seen it being done on some of the US car programmes. They machine them from billet.

I’ve read the difference in rear track is only 36mm, that’s 18mm per side. Probably all from wheel width and offset
