Following on from the "are you past it?" thread where we had people claiming to not even know what half of the things were I now present to you.....

Are you posh?

A nationwide study by Perspectus Global delved into what Brits consider to be the traits of true 'poshness' and these were the top 40 responses. How many do you score? I scored 7..... I must exit to the council thread clearly

You went to boarding school

You have antiques and family heirlooms

You have a wine cellar

You have paintings of your ancestors

You belong to an old private members club

You NEVER discuss money

You call your parents 'mummy' and 'daddy', even when you are an adult

You have a family coat of arms

You ride horses

Your dinner parties are catered

You know how to eat properly with a knife and fork (you would never say cutlery)

You have a gardener

You call dinner 'supper'

You have silver

You send proper invites to parties in the post

You have a family tree

You shoot

You ski

You wear tweed jackets

You call everyone darling

You play croquet

You ask people, 'where did you school'?

You call Champagne 'Champers'

You call the toilet 'the loo'

You drive an old Land Rover Defender

You wear an old Barbour jacket

You know Latin

You have shelves full of books

You eat partridge and grouse

You call their friends by their second names

You are good at small talk

You have a double-barreled name

You love cricket

You wear a gilet

You like rugby but not football

You say 'napkin' instead of 'serviette'

You laugh very loudly

You have an Aga

You prefer loose leaf tea to tea bags

You live in wellies

Hmmmm. I managed 20. Not sure about the 'Boarding School' question though. I didn't but my kids do, so I guess maybe I get an extra 1/2 point for that one?

Well I managed two. I'm quite good at small talk and I know how to use a knife and fork.

Although I have no idea why either of these would be considered to be a hallmark of being posh. And aren't a serviette and napkin different things anyway? A napkin is cloth and a serviette paper.

I think if you scored 50% then an extra point is rather moot old chap hehe

I went do a school with boarding, but didn't board.

What does that score?

Otherwise 10.

I wonder if the knife and fork thing means formal dinner setups and the eating from the outside in stuff. Who knows.

I got 11 and I'm disgusted with myself I got so high. Schooling and countryside pursuits are where I scored the points, so posh geographically but not behaviourally.

These are all middle class fantasies of how posh people act / dress. Especially the Defender.

Not sure how the filters will deal with this but: http://lookatmyfkingredtrousers.blogspot.com/
Or Google “ lamfrt “ and pick up the blog from the search. RT = posh, but also hipster…

I managed seven, despite being dragged up on a council estate until I was thirteen. One of those was a Scottish family crest which we found out about after a very long search!

3 - Gilet, small talk and "loo".

Not sure any of those are considered "posh".

Most PHers will be full marks though, surely.
