Would anyone be able to assist with a list of what was different spec wise from a Mk7 and 7.5 on the R, also looking for what options was available, I am struggling to find anything online.

When looking at one to buy what thing should we be looking for that pop up on these, we are new to the R and VW.

Thanks

Tough thing to answer. Both cars received spec revisions throughout their life. Biggest change going from MK7 to 7.5 was the addition of the digital “Active Info Display”, but only towards the end of its life did it receive things like adaptive headlights, keyless go and reversing camera as standard fit equipment.

Facelift got

LED headlights as apposed to xenon, redesigned rear lights with dynamic indicators
Apple CarPlay
Latter cars had digital dash

Most importantly there was no manual 7.5

Thanks mate that helps, keyless and reverse camera isn’t to important, looking at one Saturday so we know what we are looking for if it has any non listed extras.

All facelift had the adaptive display didn’t they, obviously the facelift is easily noted by the different front bumper?

I have seen 7.5 advertised with pics as manual, but we are going for DSG which we think is better.

7 speed DSG on the 7.5 (6 on the mk7), only used the 7sp in a Leon Cupra so can’t compare but most people say the 7sp is better/preferable from what I’ve read.

I did see that the 7spd is in the FL and also it has dual injection but lost it on the WLTP version.

There was a manual on the 7.5. Dropped for the 8, same as 3 door.

2017 onwards Mk 7.5 cars had dig dash, dynamic indicators, car play. Reversing camera may have come standard - I can’t remember if I specced it!

I definitely didn’t have keyless go on my 17 or 67 (former was nicked) plates.

That not good about yours being nicked, what do people do as a preventive measure.

I have a 2020 7.5 R estate. I have a crooklock on it.

I understand you can remove the keyless bit by coding it out.

Its something I am thinking about but am worried if I do and it still gets nicked would I invalidate my insurance ?

On spec as well as the above mine had the winter pack (heated seats, wing mirrors) Also a CD player & sd card slot for music.

the infotainment can be gesture controled as well

Winter pack became standard from ~September 2016.

That’s good, the one we are looking at doesn’t have keyless or anything, so a disklok or something won’t go a miss then.

Thanks for that. The one we are looking has the mirror pack which I assume as it has the silver mirror caps, not a fan of those so may change them to black if we get it.

Take care you do not leave the heated mirrors on.....VW blame that for the mirror glass falling out...............

Replacements can be found on Fleabay I'm told

They all came with silver mirror caps and folding mirrors as standard, black (and I think carbon) caps could be spec'd instead.

Surprising not many did that, see so many with silver.

I will give VW a call and see how much the black set are.

Well they smashed their way in and took the keys. So pretty determined....

Old school disclocs etc. seem to work, but need to check they fit the wheel. I didn’t bother as didn’t want to risk them coming back in the house.

Made the house more secure too.

Loved the R and I’d even specced Nappa (dark, not two tone) so was pretty unique. Grey, 3 door, nappa, manual, whatever the updated stereo was, .... on standard wheels. VE67 AOL. Was lucky that both were the mk 7.5 sweet spot with 310 bhp. Moved on nearly 2 years ago and reading about the mk 8 is a bit depressing (not from a driving perspective).
