Another "They All Do That, Sir"?

I was just about to plug my car-vac into the cigarette lighter to clean out the accumulated crap in my Chim. I pulled out the cap of the lighter (I've got the shiny Leven cap), and lo and behold, the ENTIRE mounting and wires come with it!! :(

Looking at it, there is no way I am going to get it back in without taking the door trim off (oh joy). Unless anyone knows different?

I bet I'm not the first this has happened to!

It happened to me on the way back from Le Mans. Luckily I have a very good relationship with my local dealership.

It's a case of loosening everything and sticking your arm in through the speaker hole if you don't want to take the door liner right off.

same happened to me the morning I collected my chim500 from Castle TVR, I plugged in my SatNav and the socket fell apart!

They made me another cup of tea while they fixed it! (only took them 15mins) but I'm not sure exactly what they did, but since then I have had no problems, and I plug/unplug everyday.

OK this happened to me too, and I couldn't reach it from the speaker hole, so here's what I did!

1. get some fishing line
2. Threaded the line down through the cigarette lighter hole in the door and through the lighter housing
3. With some difficulty and a pair of tweesers managed to pull the line back up so it was looped though the lighter
4. Pulled the mechanism back up to the mount and screwed the top bit back into the mount
5. Cut the bit of fishing line which was sticking out of the top.

Job done, gud un

Took about 10 minutes.

Plugged in the the trickle charger the other day and the whole lighter assembly fell into the door - managed to get the cable back out but the casing has gone into the depths of the door and no matter of wire poked thru the hole I cant find it!


Pain is, managed to hook out the cable and attach it to the lighter but the lighter doesnt work now even when the cable is attached so going to get those nice people at Fernhurst to sort when its in for its next service.
