I want to listen to podcasts/ music etc on you tube while I work, I’m guessing I need a Bluetooth speaker?. I’m planning on using my iPhone 7 which has good mobile signal. Would a beats pill or similar be wasted on such a task? Would a Cheapo eBay special be good enough for you tube vids?

An Anker Soundcore would probably do the job. Not the last word in audio quality but for the price it is pretty good:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Upgraded-SoundCore-...

£28 here.

I've got a ~30 quid Anker one which was loud enough to provide music to a small outdoor party I had last year, so no complaints there.

Something like this

Edit: jinx!

I've got a bose soundlink 2 and it's amazing for its size. Sounds like a much bigger speaker.

Another Anker Soundcore here, though a Flare Mini. Usually use it for listening to podcasts while doing other stuff. Currently working through the back list of "We have ways"

I’m assuming this isn’t going to be used at a desk

If it’s for onsite then have a look at the radios that go with power tool batteries, radio(some are dab) Bluetooth, but they also have USB ports to charge your phone whilst it’s on

Another vote for an Anker Soundcore. Ours is version 2. Great little speaker.

If the budget can run to the cost of this. It is so useful for listening in the garden, picnic, hotel room, holiday rental etc etc. It really thinks that it is a much bigger unit.

It is the one gizmo that if it broke tomorrow, i would immediately replace with another.

Last year I got a Tribit XSound Go from Amazon following a PH'ers recommendation.

Under £30, and the sound is not far off the quality of my Bose Soundlink.

I'm no fan of Bose but bought one of these in the US. I use it all the time. It lives in my bedroom for lazy weekend mornings. Great for travelling and the sound is very good for what it is. I'd not waste my money on a <£50 device. Every one I've heard will let you listen to music but they sound poor. The Bose sounds really good and has great volume for outdoors. It packs a decent punch for it's size.

Happy to also recommend the Soundlink 2, brilliant little thing that is used outside, kitchen etc. Packs a punch for something so small.

Another Bose Soundlink user here - I even use mine in the Land Rover as it doesn't have a stereo. If it can cope with 60mph in a steel box then I'm happy hehe

I miss-read that as "on the tube" and thought FFS get headphones not a speaker biggrin

I have a UE Boom 2, the sound quality is good, battery lasts ages, is handy size (think 2 mugs stacked) t's showerproof for outside use, and has a microphone for zoom calls. The newer Boom 3 apparently has slightly more base, and they have bigger versions too.

Yep it was my recommendation

Mine was bought for me by my son who is an acoustic engineer and has designed speakers etc. He reckons the sound and VFM are excellent. He did play with various small speakers in the anechoic chamber at uni

Another vote for UE, great devices for the price.

The Wonderboom is a fair bit cheaper than the Boom and its waterproof and you can connect multiple speakers to one phone!

Soundlink 2 are great (as are the mini's).

I've got a Bose Revolve Charge, genuinely really good.
