Is a cash Is worth bothering with this year?
Discussion
I use Vanguard stocks/shares ISA and have some premium bonds too.
I guess markets are tricky but I have enjoyed some decent returns for what I put into Vanguard.
The question might be how long are you investing for and how quickly do you need the money back?
Premium bonds for instance give a chance of winning, quick to withdraw and safe. Stocks/shares ISA takes time to invest, withdrawn and carries market risk!

I've got a lot of cash at the moment, bit of a windfall plus I rejigged my SIPP to be about 10% in cash... Just waiting for the equity boom to slow down and then start feeding it back in, this Week seems to indicate a further sell off of big US tech stocks is likely due to fears of inflation and the UK and Europe could be the first target for drip feeding money back in over 2021/2022... I would be worried about dumping £20k on the global equity markets right now and bonds are hardly worth the paper they're written on.
Logic suggests you want to have "high returns" in an ISA because the more money you make the more tax relief you get.
It's the flip-side of no point having a cash ISA because tax relief on nothing is nothing and, in any event, people get an annual tax free allowance for interest received.
All roads point to S&S ISA at as high a level of risk/return as fits your circumstances.

I can't see many options really for someone as risk averse as my self. Already have full Premium bonds so no option there.
Might have to put this years allowance into a S&S ISA and gamble with it. Good job I moved the majoity of my ISA's into a five year one year before last.
Also made the mistake of putting a load of money into Gov Income bonds only for them to slaughter the rates on those three months later!
First world problems....

I say on every thread but it's not as if it's got to be all in cash or all in stocks.
You have £20K.
Keep £15K in cash and put £5K in a world tracker (as an example) or keep £10K in cash and put £10K in a multi-asset fund that's around 60/40 stocks/other or put £20K into something with a focus (but no guarantee) of preserving and growing it.
Loads of ways of skinning a cat but there is a basic principle that you don't get reward without risk so if you want to be sure there's £20K there when you need it stick with savings.
