Eco hatch back recomendations
Discussion
Morning,
Other half is in need of a new car after hers was written off.
She does mega miles in a year so it needs to be capable of 60mpg plus ideally. Budget of up to 7k and newer then 2015.
She did have a DCI clio which was perfect for the job and happily returned over 70mpg and cost zero on tax. However there are not many decent ones on the market at present and I was wondering if there are any other obvious choices of recommendations we are over looking.
I was voting for a fiesta not she is adamant she doesn't want one of them...
Cheers

There's loads of stuff available in that bracket. Like you say, the Fiestas are decent, I'd sooner have a Fiesta over a Clio.
What about a Mini? Even the petrol can manage 70mpg on a run supposedly, with decent performance to boot. The diesel I think gets 80+ mpg, no tax and has the more reliable B series BMW engine. Women usually love Minis (apologies to any female PHers for the sweeping statement).
Audi A1 1.6 TDI could also fit the bill. Or what about a Peugeot 208 BlueHDi?
If you want to avoid a diesel (e.g. so you can drive into the ULEZ in London) then there are some decent petrol engined versions that at 0 tax and still get good mpg, such as the Mini I mentioned, plus things like Hyundai i20 1.0T GDi, Suzuki Swift 1.2 DualJet, Toyota Yaris, or Seat Ibizas with the 1.0 EcoTSI engines.

There are some great ULEZ compliant small cars at that price point.Other half is in need of a new car after hers was written off.

As your partner does a lot of miles going the next size up will make those journeys more relaxing, for me the Elite Nav Astra is the pick.

Cheers for the suggestions all
Mileage is about 20-30k per year. Never sees London zones so diesel seems the one to stick with as it is mostly motorway miles.
I will put this list of suggestions to her later when I am home from work.
Shame she wasn't up for a fiesta as I think they are a great steer and are a good all round car.
I did also put as DS3 to her but she wasn't keen on 3 doors which puts a downer on that and the mini option. Also I wasn't sure if I had heard some bad press about one of the citreon or Peugeot diesel engines at some point?
Also did the government change the tax banding on cars during their life cycle. For example her 64 plate DCI clio was free road tax. Where as an 18 plate one of the same model and engine is £155 per year.

Some great cars there, thanks. From the list I personally really like the 208 GT line. Looks very smart. One of my friends works for a Peugeot specialist so will give him a shout as to if there is anything to look out for on themDS3 Prestige

The early 1.6d had some issues but these were resolved post 2010 it's also the same engine as found in the DS3/Fiesta & is well proven & a nice mix of power & economy.ZX10R NIN said:

Cheers, I am trying to convince her to get a Ds3 at present. There is a really smart one locally. High miles but its got FSH and just had the belts done so its good to go really. She is set on a clio though. Shame as I prefer the DS

Get her to sit in one I'd be trying to persuade her towards the DS3 too
