Hi all,

Looking to pick up a 318i 2007, just as a stop go run around car for a few months.

I have seen one, full service history etc - but just wanted to see if there are any issues that are seen with this model/age?

I think four cylinders of this era suffered with timing chain issues.

Yes, I've heard about cam-chain issues on the 4 cylinder models although mostly the N47 diesel.

My BMW Indy recommended 6 cylinders and preferably petrol if I didn't want to be visiting him too often, so I've followed his advice and it has worked for the last 6/7 years!

Coil pack and injector issues too. And issues with the electronic water pump and thermostat.

I bought a 2006 320i and had each and every single problem people talk about: timing chain tensioner and related roughness, abs sensors, oil leaks from every imaginable seal, failed coil packs. I think I missed injector and pump, but there is still time for that.
Maybe it might work as a stopgap solution, but I would not recommend such a purchase.

Thank you all for the input - will be 100% steering clear of it.

Back to the drawing board it is!
