Hi

Im told virgin media use a special cable. trying to get hold of a roll for a refurb and want to pre-run the cable.

Virgin media dont currently service our area. im left to try and do it myself.

They probably won't touch something you've run yourself - it won't be on their "as installed" maps or details.

I believe Virgin use Webro HD100 triple shielded cable.

You will also need a crimping tool and RG6 compression F-Connectors (the screw on ones simply will not do).

Be sure to crimp the connectors as well. The screw on ones are too lossy, and don't make a reliable enough connection.

With Virgin, bad connections can cause issues not only with your own installation, but several others in your street too.

If it's just for future use I'd be inclined to just seal the ends to prevent water ingress & let the Virgin installers put the connectors on.

Given that there's chance they won't agree to using your own cable I'd run ducting instead - don't forget the pull wire.

If you're doing a big refurb I'd install tube in the walls rather than specific cables. You can then easily replace cables as technologies evolve.

I'd avoid installing anything that weds you to Virgin Media. Full fibre networks will hopefully kill them off.

If you're thinking about running this outside, bear in mind Virgin's new deployments are being done in fibre using RF over glass (RFoG) so burying coax outside will be useless. They use an ONT to convert the fibre to a coax presentation inside the property so they only have to maintain one type of STB and router across their estate.

If they aren't happy with whatever wire you have, just get them to install the box at one end of the cable, then connect theirs to yours with a connector and move the box after they leave. I did that when renovating my living room and just had the cable running across the floor.
