GASKET

My 5 litre Chimeara is suffering from a tapping sound from somewhere near the Rockers.

I think it could be gas escaping from the gasket and cylinder head. Has anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like one of the exhaust gaskets to me

Mine sounded the same then chucked lots of blue smoke out the back!!

Was the head gasket and yes with a V8 had to have both sides sorted with a little bit of engineering done too.

Lots of £'s later good as new.

VERY VERY expensive!

My advise is don't drive it until you have had it really checked out.

Exhaust manifold bolts can loosen, so check these first. (Unfortunately with my standard socket set I can only reach 3 of the bastards...)

Mine seemed to make a splattery/ticking sound under load, around 1000-2000 rpm.

I got the dealer to check it, they looked at the Vacuum advance and checked the timing, they said the gaskets were o.k.

Doesn't seem quite as bad now.
