Medium Sized SUV for badge snob £10-14k
Discussion
Not me, my wife
Wife is a Volvo fan and wants the XC60 (unfortunately new shape out of budget) but also likes the Disco Sport but £14k is scraping the barrel for these and I would want a decent warranty.
We've had lots of Volvo's and have been very happy with them.
She doesn't want anything Korean, Japanese, French etc..
No Skodas, Seats, Jeeps either you get the picture
And no I won't be trying to change her mind, we've been married 25 years and it's her money and she's chosen well in the past.
Anything that has gone under the radar?
(Not tried Infiniti yet ZX10R

)Since you've ruled out all the "sensible" options, that pretty much leaves the potential money pit German cars like an X3 or the "same as a Skoda/Seat, but with a different badge" Tiguan and whatever the Audi equivalent is.
Personally, I'd take the sensible choice - Japanese or Korean - with that budget.
In fact, I did - Kia Sportage.
Like you say though, her money, her choice.

TBF the XC60 is pretty sensible.
The R Design is well equipped and looks nice IMO.
The D4 is £30 tax (manual) or £155 (auto), will do 50+ mpg and has enough poke (190bhp, 295 torques).
The auto is a little slow if it's anything like our old XC90s but they take the mileage very well and have excellent seats and stereo systems.
Just wanted to see if there's any potential alternatives.
We had a lease Tiguan MK2, was a lovely bit of kit, 4motion, DSG and infotainment was good. Comfortable and quiet, 2ltr Diesel engine was pokey enough without being too little BHP.
However we got rid of that and bought a Audi Q5. It has way more room than the Tiguan. Much quieter and more comfortable. Ours had panoramic sunroof which although is lovely it did leak so I spent a weekend fixing it (fairly simple, just a pain to resolve).
We didn't want diesel so went for the 2ltr TFSI and manual. The Quattro seems much more competent than the 4motion in the Tig. Ours even came with 4 brand new Michelin All Season tyres which were epic in the snow. The infotainment is a bit poverty spec even with SatNav.

I'll suggest them and see what the reaction is

The answer is to sit her in some of the alternatives, in her price range then let her dismiss them that way she gets what she actually wants.
It may well turn out to be a Volvo but if she at least tries them for size (this is how I disarm certain badge conscious clients) then she'll be happy, now sometimes the badge prejudice is to strong but a lot of the time they turn.
2016 D4 XC60 R Design Nav these are good cars & no bad place to spend 14k

Infiniti wise you're looking at a 2015 QX50 GT Premium I'd get this over the XC60 above because it has a better fit & finish more powerful engine/more relaxed drive & Nissan running costs.
You'll have to stretch the budget/haggle to get one though

Thanks ZX10R, as always a great list.
Knew of the QX50 but dismissed because they were out of budget but maybe with a bit of haggling
Countryman was originally on the list but boot a little small, we have a dog which would basically take up most of it and a 6'-5" teenager!
Personally compared to the rest on the list I don't think the X3 is good value considering one's within budget are 3-4 years older than the others but B in L has one and rates it highly.
I like the Q5, the wife less so but as you say with restrictions easing we can have a look, sit and test drive a few.
Thanks again.
