just had a chat with chris at bickley... didn't know this before but the track day insurance 'add on' is limited to 5 per year....

how do you track day meisters insured with bickley deal with this... do you choose which tracks to get insured on and then risk it with the others?

and for those who do track days who are not insured with bickley, who are you insured with and how is the insurance / payment structured for track days?

To be honest I'm not impressed with Bickley. When I took out my policy I was told it was £79 per track day - when I came to do one it was £159. I could have had my main policy cheaper elsewhere if I knew this was the case.

Hmm - I wasn't aware of this limit either. Add to that the fact that NU have revolked ALL their european track day cover...

Since the cost of their one off days seems to be a standard £159 now as Greg said, it looks like it might be worth looking at other deals for renewal?

This is down to NU, not Bickley. It went very high up for a ruling and whereas it was previously negotiable it is now not. Asset Trust do unlimited track days including Europe and are cheaper.

Johnny

Try AON no problem with trackday cover, anywhere but the Ring is ok and cost 1% of your cars value.

I have just ditched NU for them

BTW you need to be a PCGB member.

Thanks Russell, I have just had the same advice given to me by a "senior" Porsche driver we both know. I used to have my E30 M3 Sport Evo insured with Aon on a classic with no worries.

I am with Bickley/NU and am pissed off with having to pay £159 for every track day, and now you tell me it's limted to 5 days per year!!!

Previously with L&V and they didn't charge extra for track days - unfortunately they wouldn't insure the GT3!!

So, should I call my local AON branch? Or, is there a contact who deals with high performance cars, and will hopefully give a better deal?

I take it from the above there is no charge for track days?

Cheers,

Mark

Aon charge 1% of the value of the car for track day cover ie £50K car £50.00 per day.... If you prang your car on track the excess is 10% of the value of the car ie £5K...
I have been told by Aon there will be no European Track Day cover next year...

Unless my maths is failing me doesn't 1% of £50K = £500? Where does the £50 come from?

absolutely correct. i am not saying anything bad about bickley - chris who i was speaking to and having been dealing with has always been very helpful and efficient. it is the ruling that NU declared that is the issue....

Chaps,

I have just got off the phone with Chris at Bickley.

He is a dead nice chap and he knows all of his trackday customers by name.

Basically none of this is Bickley's fault. NU have said that they are capping the number of track days pople can do in 1 year. This is being decided on an individual basis at the moment, but 5 track days a year is being talked about. I have paid for cover for 7 days so far this year (from £70-&110 a time) and NU have said I can't do any more. Oh bugger.

Strangely this doesn't stop people getting a Bickley NU policy now and doing 5 track days over the next year if that's all the track days you do. Indeed as a result of this thread Chris has actually GAINED 2 customers today alone! How ironic. He is going to lose a lot more than that though and he knows it.

Chris was very apologetic, but there's nothing I can do about it. Time to ring Aon!

Johnny, I never thought you had a gret deal with your insurance to be honest, now the car is 10 years old it is not too difficult to get it on a classic plicy, some include track day cover...try classic line & the classic side of Aon....I have a classic policy that includes Porsche club track days for 1/2 the ammount you paid. This at least saves some money to pay for track cover elsewhere if required.

I know what you're saying but at the end of the day they are the people who said £79 per track day and didn't mention a limit, so in my mind can't be blameless by pointing the finger at NU.

It's NU shifting the goalposts on a monthly basis and Bickley can't stop them doing this, but they do try.
