The current shape (2018 on, I think) Audi A8 seems very good value secondhand at the moment. Great spec too if S-Line or above, double glazing, full leather, active cruise, Matrix headlights, soft close doors, digital cockpit, etc etc.

Performance seems good, and everything I've read suggests they are ultra comfortable and refined (which is what I need, I'm looking for something to do big mileages in).

Anyone had one? Are they any good?

I can comment on D4 if you decide to go for previous model. I chose it on purpose in 2017, at the time when I could get outgoing model or new one. But it's personal preference. I liked buttons instead of touch screens.

It's true, D5 became cheap, however most of them are poverty spec standard cars with black on black. You have to find launch car with extra spec or one specified and ordered by private owner, which might be tricky. Most of them are specified by dealers, to fulfil the quota.

Most of the dealer cars have S-Line and Comfort Pack. It seems that if you have that, they've got pretty much everything.

I agree, you've got to like a black interior and black or almost black paint though! biggrin

I haven’t owned one however did have one as a courtesy car about 18 months ago for 2 weeks. Was really lovely to drive with plenty of power for every day needs. I’m not 100% sure on what options the car had however the list price was north of 90k If I remember correctly.
The only really downside I had is how large the car is at my work the parking spaces are fairly well sized however the a8 was longer and wider than the spaces. I had at the time a a5 coupe and it did feel massive in comparison when ever I parked it. Was a lovely car to have however it was far to large for my needs.

That's interesting, thank you.

I agree, it is a real boat of a thing, which has rather put me off - especially as 99% of the time, it's just me in it!

The size is obvious thing about A8, regardless of age. I survived for 5 years with S8 and A8 in London area. You just learn where not to go or be careful (Gatwick short stay parking, Geneva long term parking, etc). But otherwise, it didn't cause me a lot of trouble.

On the other hand, boot is huge and there's a lot of space if you ever have passengers.I used to drive alone 99% of the time.
