is this really the best air filter available?
the standard one - oil soaked sponge - is apparently doing the job, but there must be a ram air type that will bolt on the standard fitting.
shpub / 2 sheds... what are you running?

does the jag air meter bolt on or do the pipes need changing too? i'm thinking samco pipes... mucho bucks but cooler (temp wise)& prettier!

Standard air filter. Ran it on the 520 until the triple was fitted. Works well. Tried with and without - no difference.

The bigger air meter should fit but as it arrived on my car when I got it, I can't confirm. Looks like the standard hose though.

The bigger air flow will require the ECU to be chipped and set up. It is not a straight plug in and more power job. It really also needs the bigger plenum/throttle as well.

To be honest... unles you have a bigger throttle/plenum/inlet as well to allow more flow into the engine, you are not getting the real benefit of the other stuff as the standard size throttle/plenum will strangle the car.

Yes but you will not be getting anywhere near the kick that you should if you don't as the throttle will prevent the additional air flow from getting into the engine. As a result, the ECU can't supply more fuel and the engine doesn't get more mixture it needs to release more power. In other words all the stuff you have done so far is not quite a waste of time but a very expensive way of getting just a handful of BHP.

As for a grand... I assume that you are talking about carbon fibre triple throttle etc. well ally big plenums are available for around £200 or the cost of the rooling road retune you would need to do if you change anything later. If you are on a tight budget, ally stuff is a lot cheaper.

I'm just concerned that you are going to be bitterly dissapointed after doing all this stuff. If you haven't upgraded the brakes already, I would suggest that that takes precedence over the suspension. You will need the car to stop and insurance companies get less twitchy when you tell them about the mods.

up-rated discs and pads, but i didn't have any probs with the originals, but they needed changing so upgraded.
not really after a monster here, mainly after inproved low down response, and prior to mark adams it seems sensible to do the mechanical work.
cheers for the info, will no doubt talk again when/if upgrading.

Sorry i'm late !
The inlet manifold on the 500 doesn't need porting, fully ported manifolds are slightly better but not worth the extra expense, trumpets and plenum upgrade (in alloy) £375 + vat , this IMO is more important than the airflow meter upgrade, but remember any mods will need a remap.
Filters :I,m hoping that K&N are going to do me some Griffith replacements for me but don't know when, I think the problem with the standard filter is that it gets clogged very quickly, but fine when new.#

to answer your other question, yes the larger meter ( Range Rover 4.6 rather than Jaguar which isn't as compatible although identicle in appearance, will fit onto excisting pipes, however replacing the pipe from airflow meter to plenum with a smooth bore can increase power by a small amount.
