Where did you find the E34? There are hardly any for sale any more. I wish I picked one up when they were plentiful and £1500!
I think it's an E32.
Oops, so it is!
Yes it's an E32 730i (I6). More pics on the best ever looking 4-door saloon thread:
https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

If I'd had my way I'd have had a E23 (I've posted a stunning looking one as my pick) but that threat made me have a browse - I saw this and I bought it the next day. Only 88k miles and drives superbly. Very fresh too. I'm so pleased with it that I'm really on the hunt for another interesting shed, and an 840Ci/850Ci to complete my collection.

I have no idea what each one looks like, so could some kind BMW expert put up a pic of each E variation so i can join in please

Just in case any of you are serious, would this make more sense?

Maybe this will help, but note that the comments are mine and might not be universally used, so might cause more confusion.

In no particular order...

E30 = A legend in it's own lifetime
E34 = Used in Ronin (wasn't a real M5 though)
E32 = Nice, but not as nice as..
E38 = Sublime piece of engineering, especially the V12's
E28 = Older version of Ronin's car,
E36 = Getting a bit newer
E46 = Newer still, one of the last 3's with HPS, well regarded apart from the damn rusty arches.

Good write up. I have amended it!

E30 = A legend in it's own lifetime (non M3s go very sideways, M3 goes round bends well but is not fast)
E34 = Used in Ronin (wasn't a real M5 though) (and has a change of wheels mid crash)
E32 = Nice, but not as nice as..
E38 = Sublime piece of engineering, especially the V12's
E28 = Older version of Ronin's car, (M5 and M535is are lovely and go very sideways and very rusty)
E36 = Getting a bit newer (tend to be mint or drift/track rusty sheds)
E46 = Newer still, one of the last 3's with HPS, well regarded apart from the damn rusty arches. (And rusty sills/floors/jacking points going the same way as
E36s, rusty drift shed/mint ones)

My list is:

E36 328i
E46 328i
E46 330d
E46 330d
E91 335d

The common factor being they all have the correct number of cylinders.

I'm not quite there yet but have had:

E30 320i Touring, was very nice.
E34 535i manual
E34 520i
E46 325i saloon - I still have this one, and it will only be replaced with another 6 cylinder BMW (well maybe 12 if I can stretch to an E38!)

I think it should be mandatory for everyone to drive a 6 cylinder before they drive anything else. They really are worlds apart from most other engines, especially any 4 cylinder ones.

I couldn't agree more, having discovered them after a misguided 4 cylinder turbo-diesel start. rolleyes

So far I've had

E46 320td
E87 123d
E86 3.0Si Z4
E46 325ti - what I should have bought to begin with!
E86 3.0Si
E91 325i
E90 330i - current daily
E86 Z4M - current toy

Can’t argue with that.
