I did search and there are plenty threads on this but most of them are a year or older so looking for some up to date advice!

I have a 4 year old and just found out the fairly unexpected news that we are now expecting twins, lucky me!

My girlfriend is used to bigger cars and currently has an X-Trail so she is quite happy looking into a 7 seater for next year. We discussed and it is probably overkill for us both to have a 7 seater. It's not often we will all be out together and need to pick someone else up, in this scenario we would just take the larger car or both.

I'm not as big a fan of larger cars having went from an A4 to currently a 420i Gran Coupe (which I love btw).

I've come to terms that I'm probably going to need to go down the SUV type route but what's my best option for something big enough for 3 kids in the back in baby/child seats while not feeling like I'm driving a bus? Potentially open to an estate but would there be enough space in the back seats?

Currently paying around £260 a month on a personal lease and would be happy to push this up to £300 but not much further than that, probably with a couple grand deposit. Would like to continue leasing but open to second hand options as well.

Cheers!

Pug 5008, S-MAX, Skoda Kodiaq, Disco Sport, Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe for cheaper (ish) options maybe?

Think the Pug and Ford have 3 individual seats in the rear that makes life easier if you have three child seats.

I'd seen some of those but not all of them so thats helpful. Any of them jump out as being particularly better than the others? I think most of them except maybe the Discovery Sport are comfortably in budget.

Honestly I'd say the Ford and Pug. I think *most* of the different level of trims have window blinds, picnic tables in the rear seats etc in addition to the 3 individual seats and large boots, just seem better thought out as family cars with more practical touches to my untrained eye.

I think the Pug would be my preference out of the two. I'm just not a fan of the Ford. I'd rather stick to a 5 seater jf I can as well but from reading previous threads it sounds like most cars are too tight to get the 3 child seats in.

We had almost identical circumstances around 5 years ago!

At the time the difficulty was getting space for three child seats across the rear bench; we ended up with an S-Max. You may have a little more flexibility with a four year old, but you’ll still struggle with two baby seats and a booster.

The other thing to consider is how ridiculously big the double buggy will be, and making sure you have a boot capable of containing it plus the numerous other bits of detritus you carry around with newborns.

Congratulations and good luck!

Get a multimac, it will get you 3 child seats in a normal size car.

Thanks! Nice to hear your similar experience. I'm sensing the inevitable and the S-Max might be the best/only realistic option!

S Max/Sorento/Santa Fe the best value is in getting a lightly used model, or look at a Multimac setup.

Cheers. Been narrowing it down tonight from the recommendations here and comparing online myself. I think it's between a sorrento or a kodiaq now. Just hope there's not another one hiding on the next ultrasound! It will be a mini van 😄

We have a xc60 and it seats my 3 without causing too many arguments.

Should be easily possible to get a good used one with a bank loan for that budget.

But we had an smax before that, and 3 separate seats is better to be honest!

There's so much irony that you would post a comment like that.
How's your £477/month Q3 treating you? laugh

It's definitely the Multimac solution for me. Started looking into 7 seaters and got depressed lol... we'll be going for an estate or small SUV now smile maybe I can one day get the missus to agree an RS4 is the ultimate family car (or RS6, obviously)
