Long story short my brother let his car door fly open in high wind into the side of the car (jag f pace i think) parked next to him. It was in a car park in cornwall waiting for some ferry or something.

The owner of the car park wants 500 quid off him for this...

Assume metalic paint, but what should this cost to repair, and does it require a full door respray as i belive jaguar have provided the 500 quid quote, or can a chipsaway type service repair this to a quality standard?

Thanks in advance

Impossible to see from the photo if there is also a dent at the impact point but I wouldn't be surprised if there is a small one.

Door respray. Bodyshop. Not a 'man in a van' on the drive.

The owner will unsurprisingly want it done to a high standard so the car looks like it did before the incident.

'Your brother' might ask him to get additional quotes to see if they are cheaper but he is under no obligation to do that or to accept any.

Spraying a single panel runs the risk of variation between that panel & the adjacent panels, some colours being worse than others.

If 'your brother' is unhappy with the amount he might want to consider getting it sorted through his insurance.

yeah the owner is insisting a garage repair at jaguar at my brothers expense so looks like its an insurance job.

My brother lacks any form of common sense, so its not surprising he let go of door in high wind. As an example on his insurance search, when asked "how many miles do you intend to do per year" he gave them the odometer reading, so the quote was based on 77k a year. Cue two weeks of bhing and moaning about the price until i took a look at his docs.

Thanks for the clarification, i wrongly assumed a small mark (no dent apparently) would be an easy enough and cheap enough repair.

Yep, that does indeed look like a full door respray. I had something similar on a 911 and was quoted around the same price.

I wouldn't go with chips away nor expect someone else too.

It always has a different texture I've noticed on one's I've had done and they always seem to carry out the repair on a windy and/or rainy day.

If the car is half decent or a lease car I'd want it done right.

Looking at that car the owner doesn't care for it anyway....
