Hi all,

Quick question for any X5 owners out there.

New lease deal comes with the optional maintenance option as per usual. (4 year deal, 12,000 miles per annum).

£62 a month extra which covers servicing, tyre replacements and punctures, MOTs and breakdown recovery.

I'd assume this would be poor value for money and cheaper to do it myself? Any experience in typical running costs over 4 years for an X5 30d.

Thanks for your help

I replaced many tyres and a couple of alloys after hitting pot holes. Always thought the x5 suspension was too stiff for the wheels (to make it handle better), and resulted in many a puncture and cracked alloy. Also the tyres were something like £300 to replace on the one I had. Got rid of it for a 5 series estate and never had a similar problem.

Looking at all the costs it appears it may actually be good value.

Tyres - Over 48,000 you will need at least one full replacement set, plus potentially 2-4 other tyres. - £1.6k minimum.
Servicing over 4 years - £1.2k.
Brake pads/discs - £600

Just that takes you over the £60 a month already and that's not including tyre punctures.

I've had 3-4 punctures in my X5 over the last 4 years.

Mainly due to nails and other debris from building sites/house refurbs in London. So much stuff falls off lorries/skips.

Your pads/discs figure may be a bit out. My front pads and discs need changing, £430 for the pads and £570 for the discs on a 630d GT, would imagine the X5 would be about the same?

Also BMW do not have them available so will give me a hire car when the light comes on until they come back into stock!

running costs on our X5 (from new) over 4 years;
one pair of front tyres.

Passed every MOT first time

26K miles over the 4 years

Servicing costs were minimal IMHO; from memory only had 2 services, and they certainly weren't 'expensive '
Recently swapped it for a new G05 variant; significantly better than the F15 in all aspects so far
