It's on a Rapide that I saw on BCA and is in the boot, but can't for the life of me work out what its is !

Yup - parcel shelf. Unlike the Vantage where it hinges on strings but remains affixed to the car/seats - the shelf on the rapide is entirely attached to the tailgate and goes up in the air when you open the boot.
