Max advance for a 5.0 TVR
Discussion
Hi all,
well Ive finally got the OK to get the TVR engine, so all is go for the transplant into the cobra :lick: I hope no one minds me asking some technical questions on here, if so, where is the best palce to put them?
Anyhow, for now I need to know what the max advance is on the TVR lump at WOT? Im going to dump the dizzy based timing vertually straight away, I will be fitting MS to this, I will be doing fuel with MS from the off, no point in putting the TVR ECU, maf, etc, in it, just to pull it out later. Any info on timing for these things would be great, a map would be superb, but I managed ok with the 3.5 just by knowing 32 BTDC was about as far advanced as needed at WOT,

Look for cross bolts above the sump line. It should be a late block but 5.0's have been built a plenty using early casings.
I built a 5.4 stroker and it just loved something like 18 degrees static advance, wheelspin all over the place but it pinked like heck as the revs went up. I fitted a mallory unilite so I could change the max advance settings. A very cool dizzy! I also had to watch out for starter motor kick back.

Hi
I would guess at 10:1 compression these are going to be close to detonation at any large advance, I can control all of the advance map using MS so its not going to be a major problem, its getting ball park figures that really aids the tuning. Fuel is easy as theres feedback via the WideBand Lambda but ignition is a lot of hit and miss. I will have a look at the block when I get it out of the TVR, hopefully that will be very soon.
Anyhow, whats the Growl? If I aint working and Im back on the road and it aint raining I'd go,
