Just a quick rant regarding brokers! I recently purchased a Porsche 993 RS from a broker. Within a week the clutch went and it was clear the wheel nuts had been over tightened with some shearing off! The broker absolved themselves from any responsibility in stark contrast to their attitude pre-sale! It's quite clear that the broker didn't properly inspect the car before committing it to sale. Another example of this was the age of the tyres. My 12 year old son is younger than any of the 4 Pirellis fitted! I would imagine some brokers are more thorough and keener to protect their reputations butt it does highlight the risk if you're ever considering purchasing from a non-specialist dealer. Thankfully we have a good network of specialist Porsche dealers in the UK who inspect the vehicles properly pre-sale and provide proper warranties. That's a lesson leant for me...so just sharing the experience.

Mod edit. No name and shame please.

Gah, sorry to hear about that. A very exciting new car, but the clutch going and other issues must take the shine off a bit.

You're right to point out the risks of such brokers - they give the impression that you're buying a car from a dealer with the protections that includes, but in fact it's a private sale from the previous owner, and the broker is merely "facilitating" the sale.

As such they're not inspecting, guaranteeing or standing behind such a car, it's legally a private sale with caveat emptor the guiding principle.

Well, good luck getting your new car sorted and hope there's nothing else major wrong with it. And worth raising awareness of the issue.

Many thanks.
Yes, the format of this type of sale is bound to sully the reputation of an industry that's already marred by the unscrupulous few.
