My son is obsessed with astromony so looking to get him a telescope for around £100ish
Anything decent for that price?

This caught my eye, but the reviews are a bit damning!

The science thread is very thorough
For a quick idea take a look at a Meade Lightbridge for less than £100. It is a dobsonian scope - big hole at one end and a mirror at the other.
You’ll get great views of the moon.

I think you may be better to get a good set of astronomical binoculars. Although objects are smaller they’re easier for a young person to locate with binoculars, and very bright so you can often see more than a telescope. Plus they’re easier to get outside and use (I have a 10” Meade telescope that weighs about a ton, and I can see more on Mars with my binoculars).

Add on a tripod, and an app for finding your way around the night sky and he’s sorted. Something like this:

Addition: just had a look at the Meade Lightbridge and looks excellent, and may well be more exciting to receive and use than binoculars. On reflection, ignore the above.
