Hello All,

Posting on behalf of the father, as the title states we are looking for an electric vehicle under £60k. He is in the process of changing occupation and has been fortunate enough to receive a company car, the only prerequisite is that it has to be electric and under £60k, that is all.

With that being said, we have had a look at the options and the current front runner is the Audi Q4 E-Tron "Edition 1" as he has previously had a couple of Audi's and he is familiar with them.

Obviously this is a car that is not out yet so nobody can comment on them but regarding other options, does anyone have a specific car that they can recommend within this price range?

The Polestar 2 also looks like a smart thing and it is possible to sneak a Tesla Model 3 Performance within budget but again, any advice and opinions are greatly accepted as neither of us have any experience with electric cars.

Insufficient information given

e.g.

How many miles per day?

Lots of short trips or longer ones ?

Apologies,

Mon - Fri it will be 35 Miles each way with a bit of town and motorway driving there and back. He will have access to a charger at the workplace, so it will predominantly be shorter trips. Can't imagine he will need to make a trip over 100 miles one way more than once a year when he decides to holiday in this country.

Another point to add, he has a dog so I imagine he would like for there to be room in the boot for him and his crate.

Thanks

Volvo XC40 Recharge might be worth a look, or the Polestar 2.

If range isn't a huge issue and he doesn't need to charge on the road then go with the Audi if he likes it.

Range is still good but not as good as the Model 3 and the charging network is a huge bonus with Tesla but doubt if the Model 3 is practical enough with the dog.

Carwow have the Edition 1 Tech Pack at £52,960 so well under budget.

We have our 25kg dog in the back of our Model 3 all the time. Just fit a rear seat cover for pets - about £50.

I think a Tesla Model 3 long range is very good value compared to most of the competition out there and much better value than the Performance, but the build quality is not fantastic. Of the alternatives the Polestar 2 is probably the next best premium option. The VW/Audi/Skoda stuff is just incredibly mediocre in every way. My wife enjoys driving her 64kwh Hyundai Kona Premium SE and that will do a genuine 300 miles on a charge.

I would get your dad out on some test drives.

Thanks for all the input guys.

The XC40 Recharge was a great shout, he would have gone for that if it was an XC60 instead. He threw the idea of an I Pace into the mix but they are out of budget.

He is awaiting a test drive of an e-tron and a Model 3 to gather his thoughts then will decide from there. If he decides to go with a Q4 I imagine he will have to hold onto his current car for a while till he can get hold of one, apparently dealerships are expecting Q4's to arrive within 4 weeks if this helps anyone.

Does he not need a hatch for the dog ruling out Tesla model 3?

Precisely what I thought, to which I was told that the dog would have to manage on the backseat. The main draw behind the car for him is the 0-60 time and the fact that he believes they have the most advanced electric cars out there at the moment.

My money is that he will love launch speed that the Model 3 but I very much doubt it's the car he will choose, I'd bet the Q4 is the pick of the bunch in this instance.

Unless I'm missing something the Q4 is just a dressed up/down ID3

WRT the XC40 - I placed an order direct with Volvo Business leasing this week for July delivery. By far the cheapest lease deal on these I could find.
