I've privately found a 997.2 C2 (58 plate) PDK in silver/ black interior.

Options are:
Sports chrono pack
Embossed headrests
Heated seats & steering wheel
PCM
Vodafone Thacker/immobiliser

66,000 miles, and full service history with a mix of OPC and Specialists (last service May 2020 and a PDK oil change November 2020)

Needs new rear tyres.

8 former keepers, if that makes any difference..?

£29,000

What are your thoughts please? (Price and spec)

Seemingly that is just a bit of half price. Therefore it’s either a great deal or a money pit. I’d bet the farm on the latter

I'd get a pre purchase inspection done... but like you say, it seems like it may be too good to be true.

Looks too good to be true to me even at trade price. Have you plugged the details into WBAC for a laugh?

It sounds suspiciously cheap. You may have found a bargain with someone who doesn't know the worth of what they have, or it may be too good to be true and it's hiding some issues.

As others have recommended, get a pre-purchase inspection and go from there.

I would not say £29k for a high owner, early gen2 pdk is cheap!
A 2010 manual C2 low miles/owner was around £37k not so long ago even an average c2s could be had for mid to late 30s but we are currently in bubble with sellers cashing in, in a normal market I would say low to mid 20s Max!

I would disagree. Right now, it's cheap. Pre covid, would have been reasonably-ish priced. But we are not pre covid.

The market right now is stupid. But it is what it is. Prices are higher as a matter of simple fact. So, if this car is in decent condition, it's cheap.

Looks cheap to me in the current market, 8 owners is toppy though...

Inspection will tell you condition of underside, any parts susceptible to corrosion etc, a bill of £2k can be racked up quickly with corroded brackets, heat shields etc even at an independent dealer.

As with all Porsche's condition is everything. If it checks out as being a good one, buy it and enjoy!

It does sound cheap, and if you’re too nervous to make an assessment as to the condition yourself, and if the seller is genuine, I’m sure they’ll be fine with you doing a pre purchase inspection. There are a number of specialist dealers who’ll do this for you.

Although at that price I can’t imagine it’ll hang around for long, so I wouldn’t hesitate to much…!

Don’t listen to all the stories of doom, they are relatively inexpensive to maintain.

Can anyone recommend a specialist for a pre-purchase inspection near Southampton/ Portsmouth?

I am in Portsmouth and have used Autotechnics in Chichester when I had a 997 and found them very helpful.

https://www.autotechnicschichester.co.uk/

I am sure they will do a pre purchase inspection for you.

Seems like a good price to me, I would just go on condition and the current owner. How long has he had it, why is he selling etc. Is it a sensible colour scheme?

If you don't want it, let me have the guys number biggrin

Thanks... seems like a good deal not to be missed if it is legit.

It's a very sensible colour - silver with black interior so should be difficult to move on in the future (if required).

I think he's only had it just over a year (and put 8k on the clock)...career forces the sale (supposedly)

I've decided against a 911 altogether, so the car is available. The owner has just put a message up on the 'Porsche Owners UK' Facebook page if you were interested in it.

Thanks for that.

What made you change your mind and what are you considering instead?

Put it this way, I'm not skinny and I couldn't get comfortable with my elbows on the door, felt too high on the windowsill and too cramped tucked below. (Previously had a 981 Boxster with similar issue, but was only used occasionally so wasn't too bad)

I've looked at the DB9, 911 and waiting to see a R8.

The DB9 was comfy for the driver, but the passenger side wouldn't suit me for a long drive. Madly in love with the looks/ V12 but had a sense check that as a 8-10k miles/ year car (and only car) it wasn't particularly sensible and running costs would be pretty steep.

I was disappointed the DB9 wasn't right, then with a lot of research settled on a 997.2 but further disappointment now I've sat in it. If the R8 doesn't suit either then I will look at a Macan Turbo or just keep the S5. Any other suggestions welcome. (35k budget, 40k if I really had to)

That was my first thought. I’d have priced at £29k if I wanted to sell.

Appreciate market may have changed recently.

The alternative would be to lose weight but that would be bad news for those of us who enjoy your postings in the 'Photo of your dinner' thread wink
